Help me, crafty Mamas!!!

I am having ds' bday party on the morning of Hallween. It is his actual bday that day. I am not going all out Halloween theme (no decorations or attempts at spooky/creepy), but will have a pumpkin pinata and and I want a pumpkin craft to tie it all together.

The kids will probably range in age from 3-6 with an average age of 4. Carving is out, so I figured they will just decorate whole pumpkins. It will be outside but I'm afraid paint will be too messy since some kids might come in costumes.

Do you have any superfun pumpkin crafts for that age group?

If your worried about paint spills you could ask parents to send a large button up shirt to use as a smock. You could also use markers/feathers/stickers/glitter/gems all to decorate the pumpkins

What about paper pumpkins instead?In my experience glue didn't stick to pumpkins very well.But if you did paper,the non messy decorating options would really open up.
