When to stop wearing on your front?

I know that you can do back carries from the beginging, but I was wondering when you should stop the front carries. Like, is there a time when my DD will be to heavy on front? Or when will she stop enjoying the front snuggles, anyone know?

Well, DD will be 2 years old next month and I STILL occasionally wear her on the front in the Ergo! If she's particularly fussy or tired, or just in need of some mama cuddles, I put her on the front and she snuggles or falls asleep. It is a bit uncomfortable after awhile, but not too bad. Of course now that I'm 4 and a half months pregnant, she's on the back all the time now.

At about 25lbs I found I couldn't carry ds on the front for any length of time. Unless it is physically uncomfortable/painful for you there is no reason you must switch to the back. I personally find it much more freeing to have ds on my back.

I was wearing DS on the front occasionally until 25 months or so. He is now almost 35 lbs and too heavy to attempt - but I'm sure if I tried and adjusted the carrier good enough it would be comfy for at least a short time.

I stopped wearing DD in the front in the Ergo at 14 months because I could no longer see over the top of her head. She is a tall, skinny girl so weight was not as much of an issue.

DD is 16 months and about 24 lbs and I carry her in the Ergo on the front often. She prefers it to the back carry, so that is what we do.

I found front carries became very uncomfortable for me for long periods of time around 18-20 pounds. I still do them on occasion. DS is 23-24lbs. For long walks, we do back carries.

my baby is 8 months and around 18 lbs, and I hardly ever do front carries anymore. When I walk, his legs hit my thighs if he's on the front, and it's hard to reach over him to do things.

I also found dd's size getting in my way in the front more than her weight. I'm sure it varies widely as to how comfy it is for how long.

My dd is 26 mo and about 25 lbs and I wear her on my front every day in our Ergo or woven wrap. I almost always wear her down to sleep and it's easier for me to lay her in bed when shes on my front. If I try to take her off my back when she's sleeping she wakes right up. Any other time I need to actually do something (shopping, cleaning, etc.) she is on my back.

DD is 19 months and weighs around 21-22 lb. I almost always carry her on my front in Ergo, MeiTai or wrap, as we both find that most comfortable.

i stopped carrying DS on my front when i couldn't see over his head anymore. plus, he kept pushing off my chest so that he could look around! we use a chunei, so there is no forward-facing option. (we probably stopped when he was maybe 7mo?)

so now he rides on my back all the time, can see everything he wants to see, & i have no obstructions in front. works for us :-)

DD is almost 3... 36.5" and 29lbs. When we wear her, it's mostly on the hip, and has been for ages. I do wear her on my back as well. I will still have her on my front if it warrants it, though usually the hip is the easiest. But if I wanted to, I could.

DH wears her on the front all the time. He's really tall, though, so there's no issue of seeing over her head.

Really, it's whenever it becomes unwieldy or uncomfortable for you. There's no general rule.

I still wear my 2 y/o 26 lbs. 34" LO on front carry position in our ERGObaby organic carrier. We are both comfortable for about 2 hrs. and then if I need to do something, I can switch to back.
I don't like the way that the stap feels on my tummy when I use the back carry position. I am gonna ask ERGObaby if there is a way to put some padding around that strap!

I still wear my ~25lb DS on my front most of the time.
I have terrible posture and my hips naturally come much farther forward than my chest/shoulders, so front carries have always been more comfortable to me. Back carries (even in my chunei) get uncomfortable really quickly, and I feel like my center of gravity is way off.
