HELP! I'm afraid my house smells of pee

Im pretty new to CDing. I only started 6months ago. DS is 20 months but im pregnant and intend to CD baby #2 from birth. Im having some issues though.

I use BG 3.0 and im a pro at the whole laundering. My diapers are lovely and white (the inserts not so, but thats OK ) I line dry them all as we dont own a dryer and all is good in that dept.

However, DH walks into the house and says 'ewww all I smell is pee soaked diapers' thats NOT want I want my house to smell like! I do a load every day as I dont like them to 'sit'. I store them in my laundry room in a dry pail (it does have a lid!) I smell pee in the laundry room but I can bare that...but the whole house!! that mortifies me!

Any ideas? what am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? I dont want to be 'the lady with the stinky pee-house'

does your pail allow for air to circulate? The more air tight actually the worse its going to smell.

Its pretty airtight, maybe that is the issue. Im kinda nervous to leave the lid open though incase the smell circulates more. Maybe I'll try...or just put it out in the garage

I keep my pail in the garage near the washing machine and we don't have any issues even with poopy ones

try it amonia going to build up and break down into that nasty smelll the less air it gets a pee diaper in an open pail will smell for a bit of time but the amonia will break down in the air and a few mintues latter no smell. We often threw dirty diapers into an open plastic laundry basket with no mell issue.
the garage idea is a good one as well we did that when we had a garage. However when DD was small our washing machines were located "outside" and BTW we lived in Tucson also at the time so if we did keep the pail out side I had to wash often or mildew grew.

I agree to try leaving the lid off. When closed tightly it kind of "steams" in there, but with the lid off (or partially off) it will help air circulate and the dipes dry out a bit.

Thanks for the tips ladies. The diaper pail has gone into the garage with the lid off. We'll have the 'smell test' when DH gets home

I use an open basket right in my apartment. I throw the pee diapers/trainers over the edge and let them air dry and I have very little problems with pee smell. The only time it is bad is if the wet stuff gets covered up by other laundry and "steams" as the other posters said

I tried the open air theory but there was always a soaked diaper 'off gassing' at any given time of day and my bedroom (where we do diapering) reeked. It didn't work for us.

I use a hanging wet bag and don't have a problem though. I think the garage idea might work for you?

Hope you find a solution!
