Knitting slipper/moccasin thingies?

Anyone have a pattern for knitting something like a moccasin? I'd like to knit something like this for DS and myself. I think you can buy the leather sole thingies at craft stores, but I'm not sure about where to look for patterns.

Also do you think it's a good idea to try and make them or should I just suck it up and spend (what is to me) a redonkulous amount on slippers?

I got a pattern for them from Etsy and then got left wondering why I'd bothered spending the money on them. Knit a pair of socks (fair isle would be good, thrummed would also be good), draw round your feet onto a piece of leather, use a nail and hammer to place the holes and sew the soles on.
You'll probably find that you want some ease in the socks (which normally have negative ease) so knit them bigger than normal.

Thanks! That's why I posted... I've seen patterns at the craft store for $15 and I just don't want to spend the money if I don't have to... and apparently I don't!
