Habanero Peppers in the Food Processor

Is there any reason I shouldn't use my food processor to chop up a pound of habanero peppers? I guess I'm worried about somehow tainting it. I have a Kitchen Aid if it matters...

I am not sure. I would think by washing the food processor it would get ths oils from the peppers off.

I wouldn't chance it, b/c I use my food processor a lot for baking and sweets. So the heat would definately stand out. I'd use a metal knife (no plastic/wood handle) and a glass cutting board.

oh, and gloves. definately gloves!

oh- I have a seperate processor b/c I noticed an onion-y scent hanging around even after it had been thoroughly washed, so that is what I'd base my thoughts on. If oyu decide to do it anyhow Then maybe washing it asap might help.

I'd be more worried about the oils getting into the air. Even without touching them, they'll burn your eyes. And with them speeding through there a lot of oil will end up in the air. So make sure you have googles on and keep everyone else out of the well ventilated kitchen.

And definately use gloves while handeling the peppers.

Out of curiousity, what are you making?

Super tonic Garlic, peppers, ginger and horseradish allowed to sit for six weeks in raw apple cider vinegar.

I just remembered that I have an old blender I was going to get rid of. Maybe I'll use that (and goggles and gloves, etc.).
