tips for sewing rrp diaper

Last night I sewed one of these fitteds, and when finished it seemed awfully small. I added 1/2" seam allowance, but it still seems narrow and not long enough in the rise. I'd like to modify the pattern so it's not a pocket, but just a os fitted. Any tips, experience w/this pattern? I've heard it's great, but maybe I'm not doing something right.

I don't have any experience with this pattern, but the Diaper Sewing Divas forum is great for asking questions like this. HTH.

I made up about 18 of these from recycled materials (Tshirts and cotton dress shirts) and stuff them with flats, GMD yellow-edge prefolds, or homemade inserts. They're just fine on my nearly 19lb 4.5 month old with a decent amount of stretch left in the rise. Not too small at all, and in fact, he was too small for them until he reached about, oh, 12ish pounds.

I don't see why you couldn't do them as fitteds instead of pockets. I've considered it, myself. I would be concerned a bit about bulk on smaller babies if you had it all sewn in, though. I had to fold the "stuffing" a good bit at the beginning to make sure the diapers fit comfortably and well, whereas now he needs a lot more length in the absorbent section to keep him from leaking too much.
