New Article about Combining Cloth Diapers with EC...

Hi everyone,
I hope you are enjoying your Baby Pottying time with your babies and tots.

My Jett is 14 months and so he is in a quite variable stage - he'll sometimes signal really clearly, he has pointed to the potty, used sign language, held on for ages when out even when playing with water until given a wee break, and this is interspersed with 'planky' or 'noodle' baby and piddles on our tiled floor!

So, if you are in this stage, don't stress! Carry on - it'll keep on changing.
Although I have these sites about EC I must still admit to being, erh 'inconsistent', LOL - I'll focus on using signing for a few days, then get slack and just offer Jett a wee break without giving him the chance to point first if I feel I'm in a rush and just *know* he needs to go.
No biggie.

OFFERING BABY A POTTY BREAK CAN REDUCE YOUR OVERALL USE OF DIAPERS

This is a new article I had published this week on The Cloth Diaper Whisperer. I hope it encourages someone to offer a potty break to their baby tomorrow!

well done. you make it sound so easy and natural. that is the way it should be. If that was how I heard about EC the first time I would have started this long ago. Unfortunately I perceived it as an all or nothing kind of thing and had no idea that I could ec by just offering occasionally.

For any lurkers that don't EC, but are reading up out of curiosity...

I have several friends who tell me how great it is that I offer the potty, and how they "don't have time" to do EC. The only major difference I've noticed regarding time is the switch from disposables to cloth diapers (which you don't have to do). When my daughter was born, we would wait until the diaper was full before changing her (several hours). Now, I can't even imagine missing a pee by half an hour, never mind several hours. WHY would I leave her stay wet?

I also went through a period where I tried to catch every pee/poop, but that was tiring on us both. Once I relaxed and started offering it only occasionally (and at diaper changes), EC became no more difficult than changing a diaper (literally). It just got "changed" a lot more often. And putting her on the potty first thing in the morning (and after meals, bath, high probability times, etc) has been EASY. She now takes herself to the potty often. She rarely does anything on it, but it's a step forward.

My friends who "can't be bothered", now have toddlers who scream bloody murder when you put them on a toilet. My daughter may not be "toilet trained" any earlier than via western methods, but she LOVES her potty. And the catches we do have are pretty darn exciting for both of us... She gets excited about pees, but when she poops in the potty, she is SO proud of herself. Pointing at it, smiling, waving bye to it as I flush it down the toilet...

EC IS easy and natural for us. We started late (4.5 months) with my current daughter, but I plan to start straight from birth with my next child.

This article is incredible!!! So simplified that anyone could have the confidence to try EC and not even know that they were doing it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is just what I needed to share with some skeptical friends. I have already linked to my blog.

I like this article a lot.

When I think about how many fewer diapers we are using, I feel like we are doing great with EC. When I count up the wet diapers and pees on the floor, I feel like we're not communicating well. I try to stay in the former mindset and I like the way this article talks about it. Just forwarded it to a new mom friend of mine who is considering EC.
