Moving on from timing w/5 mo old

We've been ec-ing our 5 mo old since about 3 mo, just based on timing during the day. Two days a week he goes to daycare, they are game to try, but haven't had luck so far. For me he will pee in the bblp no problem. I'm catching pees really well and poo occasionally, always based on timing.

Now I want more! I'd like to keep him dry for longer but don't know how to expand on the success we've had so far.

For a while he was wetting only at night and I'd catch a BM first thing in the morning, but now he's just a 24-hour poop factory. He tends to poop while sleeping and nursing (a real multi-tasker! ) I have never tried holding him over a pot for nursing. This would work, but I don't want to juggle a container while nursing, and don't really what difference it would make to have him just laying on a dipe instead of wearing it. It sounds like lots of people try to catch while nursing, someone want to explain the benefits?

He still poops several times a day, can I look forward to fewer and more regular poops when he starts solids foods?

This kinda rambles, but the upshot is that I'll take any comments/advice I can get. Thanks.

as far as catching while he is going the method that works for us is to hold dd in the classic ec hold with my hands on her thighs facing the back of the toilet and me sitting on the toilet seat (obviously also facing the back of hte toilet) while she is nursing. THis helps her to get the poo out and I can just wipe and flush way better than a poopy diaper especially a blow out way up the back, etc.

Hi glamourkitty,

My son is also 5 months. We started at 7 weeks. In the beginning, he would poop while nursing, and I would just stop nursing and take him to the potty. (undressing and redressing, etc.). The signal would be farting, beginning to poop in his diaper, or fidgeting at the breast.

Now, he poops after nursing or whenever. Occasionally, I'll get the pulling on and off the breast signal and take him and he poops. But he can usually focus on nursing now and poop after.

He also poops many times a day. Probably about 4 big ones at this point.

You might just give it a little more time -

my little girl is about the same age. She USUALLY poops only every other day, and USUALLY only in the morning. So I USUALLY get all her poops. But she can get me w/ some surprises from time to time. And pee is a whole other story of woe.

But for pee or poo, really no signals from her. Just me guessing, timing, etc.

She is quite mobile for her age (getting close to 6m) and can sort of crawl and pretty much get all over the room she is in. It seems like she is trying to climb over to the potty frequently, sometimes I stick her on it and she goes, but often she yells at me. Its confusing, b/c she LOVES the potty and wants to play with it all the time.

I am waiting for her to somehow indicate more clearly, but meanwhile just figure that the catches we have in a day (maybe 4-7? It used to be more like we'd MISS 3-6x per day, and now the ratio has flipped) are fewer diapers and that should count as "success." I am curious if there is something more I could be doing, other than offering potty often, saying "peepee", making a cue sound, and making the potty sign. Sometimes her big bro does all these for her too, which she thinks is quite fascinating.

My son (now almost 5yo) only pooped like every 10 days at this age! When he started food he did become quite "regular". It was pretty much whenever he would eat. Often in the middle of a "meal". Ew. So, for me he went from very infrequent poops to something more like what your son does now.
