What do I call this?

So, DH and I are going to birth at the Farm which is about an hour and a half from our home. I have been asked several times if I am having a home birth. I have responded no, because, we won't be at our home. But we aren't having a hospital or birth center birth. We will be a in cabin/cottage. So, is this a homebirth? Or???? Any catchy or smart aleck retorts would be appreciated!

Thanks for the help!

"Actually I'm hoping to birth the way an animal does, you know like on a farm."

it would shut someone up.

I think it is a homebirth, since you'll be at a home. But actually a homebirth and a birth center birth are the same- they're both out of a hospital, and safety v. risk they are the same.

Well, I don't know. What do you think it is. I knew someone a while who called their birth at the farm a homebirth, she had her twins there. If I'm remembering right she'd rented one of the cabins or something for a while actually.

I had my first at MIL's house.

I still tell everyone it was a homebirth. "Yeah, she was born at home...not MY home, but still a home!"

You could say you are having an out-of-hospital birth, or that you are birthing at The Farm, or that you're gittin' all hippiefied and birthing at a commune. I think it would qualify as a birth center - women go there to give birth without epidurals or instant access to an OR...

How lucky that you live close enough to go there!
