knitted diaper?

So, I was reading about tie diapers, and I wondered if anyone had ever tried to knit a diaper (not a diaper cover, but the actual diaper) out of cotton or something. I was thinking it would work the best for a tie diaper or prefold-type thing, which could be tied or snappied. I found the fitted pocket diaper on ravelry, but I was thinking of something more simple. I also found this diaper liner pattern. I was thinking I could knit something along the lines of this, which is called a “knit tie diaper”, but it’s not hand-knit, just a knit fabric.

Doesn’t hurt to try, right? Anyone else ever do this?

In case anyone has read this, I'm knitting a prefold and we'll see how it goes.

Hey, I really like that tie on diaper. My Dh wouldn't be a fan of it. Uh, I left the baby in cloth for my 3 appts today, and DH found the very few sposies we have left, and I came home to him with a sposie on. Grrr!! I made these OS diapers that are already stuffed with SNAPS! And, he puts a sposie on him! I think I will donate them to the church. LOL Kymberli

I was just perusing JAs yarn today, since I had to go all the way back to get my flannel I left there, and I was thinking about you knitting a diaper. LOL I can't believe how many yarn types there are out there; wool, cotton, bamboo, silk, nylon, acrylic of course, polyester, blends, recycled, felted, fancy, etc. Oy!! I am really wanting to crochet longies but I want to avoid wool or anything that has to be handwashed or will shrink. So, I am really thinking about the polyester, but I can't do that until I have used much of my fabric. I will try that after the baby gets bigger, since they take so long to make. I was thinking that I could make longies/shorties with fleece, and then make the polyester skirtie on top with some fancy yarns too to decorate.

But, since I saw the cotton yarn, I thought about you. How is it coming, and do you have pics yet? Kymberli

I started a prefold, but it was too stiff, so I frogged it. I have a new idea for how to make it softer, so I'm starting over.

I am not up on knitting terminology. What does "frogged" it mean? I have read it before, and had no clue then either. Kymberli

Frogged means unraveling the work you've done. Or "rip it" which sounds like "ribbit", which is what a frog says.

It's kind of obscure.

Did you ever get that knitted diaper done?

I have come back after a very long respite off my groups and having a baby. My baby is almost 4 mos old now, so you know it has been a while. I wanted to come back and see if you had actually gotten something knitted for a diaper because I am soooooo addicted to knitting now that I learned how. I went to YouTube and played the cast on over and over and other techniques, and I have been knitting as much as I can since I got all the diapers done. I made some acrylic longies, all around cables in the 3rd pair of longies that I knitted even. How is that for ambitious!! My DD just asked how may items I have gotten done in the last 6 mos that I have actually been knitting, and I would have to say about 20 items now; longies, shorties, skirties, just recently, socks even! I have a bonnet OTN, 2 pair of socks, a skirt, and now, trying to get a knitted cotton diaper made. I never did check out the ravelry pattern until today, since I finally have a subscription, and boy are those cute!! I haven't touched my sewing machine nor any of my quilted UFOs since I learned how to knit. I just LOVE it!! I have also switched to wool for my longies since the 3rd acrylic item. I love it so much more and haven't ruined anything yet with an accidental washing or anything.

I have made a few washcloths and thought that they were so soft after washing, that is when I got it into my head to make a modified prefold of sorts. I really think it will be soft, and absorbant, but not as pretty as that one on ravelry.

So, did you get anything made? I perused the yarn crafts and this section and haven't seen any updates. Kymberli
