How long is a normal hospital stay?

Hey you guys. I have been kind of scarce since the birth of DD but I am begining to worry about a good friend of mines so I kind had to make time to get on here.

She is a first time mama and she text messaged me and said she was on the way to L&D on the morning of the 12th because she had been having contractions for 5 hours and they were now 5 minutes apart. So I texted her back congrats and that she could do it (she wants to try for a natural birth) but my message never was read by her. We have the same phone carrier so I know when she recieves my messages. But I figured either her phone was off because duh she was in labor or else she wasn't getting a signal in the hospital. So I just decided to wait patiently to hear back from her.

But here it is, the night of the 14th and my message still hasn't been recieved by her phone. I am really starting to worry about her. I know I always stay in the hospital for the manditory 24 hours and then I am at the nurses station rushing them to get my paperwork done so I can leave. Is it normal to stay there longer than 24 hours?

I even thought of calling the hospital but her husband is really not too fond of me and I feel it would cause undo stress on her if I were to do that so I am not going to.

But should I worry? Is it normal for her to be in the hospital so long? I know as soon as she can use a phone I am going to be first to hear from her because we are really close friends and our babies were due a few days apart which made us so excited to share our babies with eachother. But I am starting to get to the point where I am wondering if the birth went ok. What do you all think?

I was in the hospital for 2 days. If she ended up with a C-section, recovery could be longer. I'm not sure how many days for that.
Maybe her phone needs to be charged or she forgot to turn it back on.

I had a totally natural birth with my son (who was born 10 min after we got to the hospital) and the hospital at which I gave birth wanted me to stay 2 nights. It sounded like that's what they typically did, but they let me only one night, because we really just wanted to go home. So I think 2 nights minimum can be normal.

2 nights is pretty normal. Every time I've been in the hospital they ask me to stay two. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

48h for vag delivery, 72h for csection. starting when baby is born and most states have a clause that says you cant be released at night so if baby is born after 8 or 9pm, you get an extra night.

hope she's ok!

I'm having a c-section and unless there are complications it's 2 nights and then home.

Hope your friend is ok!
