Introductions and Looking for Guidance

Hi everyone, I'm Laura. I'm a (recently) happily married mother of two wonderful children, an 8 year old daughter and 5 year old little man. I turned 30 in August and have been experiencing something of a awakening/life re-evaluation. Since marrying (my ex husband) and giving birth to my two I've led a pretty normal life. Hospital birth for each, breast fed but no child led weaning, no attachment parenting, no co-sleeping (this kind of weirds me out?), somewhat strict discipline, circumcision, vaccination, private schooling for my daughter and my little guy just started kindergarten and he's doing great!

Getting remarried to a lovely man and just growing up some have made me rethink some of my life choices. A friend who is pregnant has started looking into Natural Family Living and got me interested. I found this website and figured I should stop lurking and join, and now posting!

Would it even be possible to make a change for myself and man and children, or would it just confuse them and disrupt their lives unnecessarily? If I can make the change, any suggestions? I most likely will post this in another forum later, but I thought it made since for my introduction. Any suggestions/ideas/experiences/similar stories would help greatly!

It's never too late!!!

One thing I have learned from being a mother and having relationships with other mothers is that everyone decides to do what is best for their families. What one person chooses may work for their family but not someone else's family. I know some mothers that vaccinate their children while others that don't, some that breastfeed, some that don't. Who really knows what is best? We do!!!

Throughout the past 10 years, I have slowly made changes in my life that I felt were best for me and my family's well being....those changes being a more "natural" way of living. I would suggest by starting with small steps and making any changes you feel are necessary or that feel right for you.

Good luck!

Small steps is definitely the way to go for me, for sure.

And of course I get that every family has to decide on works best for them. I feel like I just went along with vaccination, circumcision, the school system etc because that's just what I was "supposed" to do and didn't really know I had other options. Definitely feel like I've been doing my family a disservce.

I think that's how most people are unless they grew up with more AP style parents-me included. I stumbled across this board a while back when my DH and I were just starting to consider children (and now an oopsie). Before being inspired by MDC to research a lot of these subjects I never thought about things like vaccination or circumcision for sure, although I did feel uncomfortable with some other things. And I've learned so much about things I wanted to do-like breastfeeding.

Good luck and welcome! Here, it's all about researching things for yourself so you can make the best decision for your family--there are mamas on here with pretty mainstream parenting choices to people living off the grid and most of us fall somewhere in between. I'm sure you'll get along just fine here.

Welcome again!, Kara
