can I ask a personal question? shaving? - Page 4

I don't shave at all in the colder months. I do take a scissor to to my lower parts, when necessary, for a close cut, maybe about a half inch.

In the summer, I shave below my knees, my pits, and a little off the sides of down there, for a clean look with a bathing suit.

I've never considered taking off more.

zensven, I am right there with you. I don't get it. It actually kinda bums me out. I feel like it's really upped the anti. lol It's like when I realized that you have to be a size 0 or 2 to be thin now. When I was a teenager, I don't think the sizes went below 6.

I've been in a monogomous relationship for 20 years now and I'm pretty sure that no men who I've known that personally, and frankly it was a good sample of guys, lol, shaved. None of my girlfriends back then shaved and we would've all been talking about it if it was a thing. Now that we don't talk about that sort of thing much, I'm going to have to imagine that they're all shaved bare after reading this thread.

Gotta say though, I'm really not tempted to change anything. Everything works fine. I've never found hair annoying, mine or his. And I do remember many years back shaving my bikini line bc I was actually going to be wearing a bikini and it was unpleasant at best. And I can't help but believe that this trend has got to have a lot to do with internet porn and how easy it is to see it. When I was a kid, I don't think there could have been such a thing as vag fashions.

This thread has been rather eye-opening for me, too!

I have no issues with whatever anyone else does for whatever reason. I just had no idea.

Now, I am intensely curious!!!! I am resisting the urge to go ask my neighbor right now! (We're good friends and have discussed some personal issues, but this one hasn't come up.) I am planning to have this discussion with my playgroup moms next week....

I grew up with my dad and had no instruction in girly things like this. I shave under my arms during 75% of showers and I shave the lower part of my legs during 50% of showers. We live in a warm climate and I wear skirts or shorts more than half of the year. These were the only parts of other girls/women I saw and noticed they shaved. Much later on, I figured out that women often shave the entire leg and "clean up" the pubic area. I never realized women (or men, for that matter) actually SHAVED their pubic areas. Fascinating!

Anyway I just feel like I must have been living under a rock because I never imagined that so many people shave so much of their bodies. I of course understand that it's the choice of whomever, and I could care less really, but I just don't understand it.
I guess it depends on the kind of circles we all run in, but (back when I was with men, 1996-2002) I'd never been with a guy that didn't trim the hedges. Even now, I would say the majority of single guys (guys who are out there actively dating) do some trimming. I haven't really seen much TOTAL shaving from guys, but definitely some trimming. Married men? Probably not. Just like I think it's way more common for single women to trim/shave than married women. Maybe it depends also on geographic location. I think there tends to be more well-groomed or metro-sexual men on the coasts, rather than in the middle of the U.S. Just generalizing here, I know.

Yeah, I guess. If practical = bushy.

(Actually, maybe my little theory is hogwash, because all these men I'm referring to were in MO, where I'm from )

too funny!

I have a feeling the "norm" in the US is shaved/trimmed underarms and shaved/trimmed below the knee. And possibly trimming the pubes for swimsuit season.

I'm the opposite-- I've shaved the "undercarriage" (love that term ) since I was a young teen. I would get infections if I didn't, like a pp said. Never cut myself or gotten an ingrown hair in that area. That is the only area I currently shave. I trim the mons once a month or so, but get itchy if I shave (tried it a couple times). Don't wax. Just don't. Ouch.

Armpit hair doesn't bother me. I kinda like how soft and fluffy it is. Though I trim to a half inch or so.

I thought I had a lot of leg hair when I used to shave. Now it's about 8 months grown-out and soft and fine and barely noticable.

Oh, and I pluck my eyebrows when I want to feel fancy!

I shave armpits daily, legs bi-weekly with touch-ups every other day but the "undercarriage"? Rarely shave it. I have always found shaving it always began with horrible razor burn no matter what kind of razor I used, and ended with ingrown hairs galore. I have tried exfoliating to prevent the ingrown hairs and everything, but no luck so far... I want to know peoples secrets for how they shave without issues! I do trim on a regular basis, but I would prefer to have it bare if I could.

I keep thinking about trying to go get it waxed (I usually wax bikini line, but I can't bring myself to put the wax strips close to any sensitive parts lol) but I am a bit weirded out by having someone I don't know down there.

My husband trims everything but never keeps it bare... that would creep me out. I like the treasure trail on the lower abdomen leading to well... the treasure!

I shave everything - like a PP said, everything below the eyebrows. It's not for any man's pleasure but I just hate the feeling of hair anywhere. It really bugs me. Actually what is most "pleasure-oriented" for my DH is even leaving my long hair down. I like to have it up in a bun with pins keeping all stray hair away. I hate the feeling of even hair-hair. It distracts me.

I also hate anything scratchy like wool sweaters for example. Won't wear them. It's the same type of feeling for me to have hair on myself.

I shave my legs... when I remember to (I wear long pants or skirts almost year round, so I don't remember to that often, but I feel sexier when I shave them.) Just to about 2 inches above the knee.

I keep my armpits shaved, but again, am super lazy, so it might be like once or twice a week. if it gets fuzzy, I shave.

As for the pubic area, I trim it. DP at first asked me to do the "undercarriage" but leave the visual bits, but I can't. If I shave AT ALL down there, I get itchy, ingrown hairs, pain, its just horrible. So I trim how it works for him, and that' works for me. (I can't even shave for bikini lines, I only trim really close and tuck things under, because it is so painful and itchy for me to shave there.)

DP trims down there, I really don't mind him fully fuzzy, but he thinks I like it trimmed, (despite having told him I don't mind), and he likes it trimmed. *shrugs* as long as he's not bare. I have nothing against folks going bare, if they like it, but for me, I would have issues having a bare sexual partner I think. It's just too... kid-like for my personal tastes. I like a bit of manly or womanly fluff.

I would be anti-shave (or is it pro-hair???) but I do actually prefer the look of no-hair.

That being said, I hate shaving. I only shave my armpits when I'm going to be wearing a shirt that reveals them. I only shave my legs in the summer. I'll trim my bikini line w/ a little bikini shaver thingie but you couldn't pay me enough to shave any delicate parts of my body. It does terrible things to my skin and looks horrific growing back.

Every now and then for TMI reasons I use some of that cream that takes all the hair off. Rarely, like 2x a year. It works great but I hate to think of what's in it and what it's doing to my body.

In my teens I shaved my arm pits, legs and private area everyday in the shower. I was terrified of being teased for being hairy if someone in the locker room saw my legs or pits unshaved, and I thought every woman shaved down there because their partners liked it. Around 17 I realized that not all girls do, and now I trim down there to keep things managable, because if I don't, it's definitely unmanagable . That doesn't bother my partner, and he trims too, but doesn't shave. Like others have said, it makes me feel like a kid to shave down there, but to each their own.

As for my pits and legs, well I try to keep on my pits now a days. In my year of college I stopped shaving altogether, and didn't shave at all for almost two years, but then I had a partner (an abusive controlling one) who demanded I shave them because it freaked her out, and I did. Ever since then I've kept them shaved, I guess I'm just used to it again. I do my legs whenever I think of it, so maybe...once a month? Thank goodness my partner doesn't care!

Wow! This is really surprising. I never knew that so many people shaved the undercarriage!
AFM- I shave my arm pits once every few months - really just to make the deoderent get closer to the skin so that it works better. I guess I trim the undercarriage when it gets "wild", but not very often. I have not shaved my legs in 5 years.

When I feel like it, I shave my armpits, legs, everything between the legs, and also pluck my eyebrows and a couple of darker hairs on my upper lip. When I don't, I don't. DP has already been informed that if he wants anything below the navel shaved while I'm pregnant, he's doing it for me :P

DP does not shave or trim anything below the neck, although he has told me he would trim if I wanted him to. I do not, so he does not.

okay seriously to those who don't...

If you are seriously one of those people who never do anything "down there" how on earth do you wear a bikini/bathing suit???

I had to start shaving down there when I was like 13 or else i'm pretty sure there would be a bulge in the front and little strays coming out the sides LOL

I don't know, I guess it just compresses down or something. Mine is very fluffy, but I've been a swimmer all my life and have only ever done a little trimming on the sides. The hair seems to be migrating out in all directions now that I'm older, though, so it requires more maintenance, but I swim a lot less, too.

I can't imagine shaving it all. The bikini line is painful/annoying enough. Nor can I imagine waxing, lasering, or depilating. Too each her own.

Pits every shower, legs 2-3 times a week in the summer, bikini line waxed/the rest trimmed close with scissors in the summer. In the winter, I shave my lower legs maybe once every ten days, pits every other shower and occasionally trim. I'm also single though, I'd probably keep up the grooming if I wasn't I can't shave at all near the bikini area...holy ingrown hairs! It hurts so bad. I kept it up pretty regularly for about 2 years, since everyone swears it'll get better. It never did. I actually had a guy friend say he "fully expected" a woman to be totally shaved down there. I set him straight.
