Anyone have any ideas? Or can point me to another thread? I am having NO creative ideas right now. Oh, this is for my four yo ds who is not picky.

I am hoping to get the fabric together some time soon for a vampire cape. Maybe you could make a cape for a superhero of some kind.

I was thinking too that I could dress him as Edward- you know some nice slacks and a shirt. But that probably isn't very creative or fun. Sorry

My 4yo DS is being an indian this year (his idea, lol). I found bright colored feathers and wide elastic to make a headband at Hobby Lobby under 3$ for both. He's already got brown pants and I bought a cheap brown shirt which I am going to glue brown felt fringe to. Cheap and easy!

2 years ago he was a scarecrow (my favorite costume yet!). I got raffia (fake straw) very cheap at Walmart and glue it around the edges of an old pair of jeans and flannel shirt. Added a big floppy hat and it was SOO cute!

Animals are super easy, just attach ears to a hood and use face paint or even just an eyeliner to color a little black nose. We've had dogs, bunnies, bears, you name it!

I remember being a clown one year just using mismatched clothing around the house.

I know this probably won't work with a 4yo boy, but I'm throwing it out there anyway Last year DSD was a grandma! She wore an old bathrobe, and I put her hair up in rollers and dusted it with baby powder. She won a prize for most original at a costume party!

Good luck and have fun

I'm making a chiton and himation out of some sheets, and then getting some rubber snakes at the dollar store. I'm going to stick the snakes in my dreadlocks and go as Medusa!

I just made two no-sew pirate costumes in less than 10 minutes.

I took red and white striped fabric (from Ikea. It's a few years old, no clue if they still have it, but you can undoubtedly find similar somewhere). Measured the kids' shoulder width, added an inch or two, and cut a strip of the fabric that wide. Measured from shoulder to waist and a bit longer, doubled that, and used that to determine the length. Folded the resulting strip in half, and cut a cross at the neck for a headhole. No need to finish it or anything, since it's a pirate costume, so it's ok if it looks raggedy. I may go through with pinking shears later to reduce the stringiness, though.

I plan to belt or tie these at the waist with a black sash (I have that fabric lying around - just need to cut a strip). I'll cut off a pair of DS's black pants in a raggedy fashion (I can cut them long, and then clean them up as use for shorts next summer), DD will probably just wear black leggings, and both have black shirts to wear underneath. They have pirate swords and shields as toys already, which they can wear with it, or you can make them out of cardboard pretty easily.

If I'm feeling like it later this week, I'll make/find a simple pirate hat and eyepatch, or they may just wear bandanas or scarves on their heads. I may or may not make matching bags, too.

I'm really happy with them. Even though it's totally quick and cheap, the striped fabric makes it look like a real costume.

If you're going for REALLY simple and last minute: cut two holes in an old white bedsheet and dress as a ghost.

One year I was a "happy camper" dressed in jeans and a flannel shirt. I wore a backpack and had leaves in my hair/attatched to my clothes and wore a big smiley face around my neck.

If you have the right stuff around your house, a firefighter costume is pretty easy.

Find a black or beige set of jacket and pants. Or you could use a red jacket and black pants. Use duct tape and yellow electrical tape to make the reflective bands on the arms and legs. If you have rain boots, cover them with black electrical tape; otherwise you could just wear regular black shoes. Then stop by your local fire station; they usually have plastic helmets that they give away when they visit the schools. If you're lucky like we will, they will even offer to let DS sit in the fire truck while you're there!

we are doing cpt hook and peter pan this year. I found a wms small maroon shirt at Goodwill, Cy is wearing it with black pants, one of my white scarves as his cravat, and a hat and hook from his dress-up box. The baby (but easy to do for a bigger kid) is Pan. He is wearing brown tights and a too big for him green shirt. I cut the bottom of the shirt jagged and am braiding a yarn belt for him. I bought a small piece of brown felt to make a wooden sword and a piece of green felt to fold (in newspaper hat style) into a hat. If I run across a red feather I'll pick it up to stick in to the hat, if not I'll just cut one out of construction paper. I am making myself some fairy wings too btw and am supposed to be Tink b/c that's what Cy said I needed to be. Dh is going to attempt Smee if he can get his stuff together by then.
