Come to WI, they are really nice here. When dh went to get his license the lady stopped herself from doing her usual "fill out this form bla bla bla" and said, "first, let me welcome you to WI!" It was really nice

I love those moments where you are doing something totally average and nursing at the same time.

She said "I was wondering why there were no baby checks for formula or cereal but I looked at the date and it looks like he's not a baby anymore!!" (My child looks like a 2 year old anyway so that was confusing.) I said "he's never gotten formula checks anyway- he's never had a bottle!" She said "Oh well what did you feed him???" with this shocked look, then a few seconds passed (I was preoccupied) and she said "oh, I guess you must have breastfed right?" I told her I did and asked if they just don't have many mamas that don't get formula and she said (indignant at this point "oh, well... it happens but everyone stops at some point. You're really lucky that you made it a whole year." I replied (smiling ear to ear) "I don't see what luck has to do with it and I don't think anyone HAS to stop until well after they'd need checks. HE still nurses almost exclusively!" Grinned, and high-tailed it out of there. LOL
Since this is a bad WIC story (wth? I guess there really aren't too many non formula moms. Sheesh) I took DS to WIC (and I'm pregnant). The nutritionist asked if I was still nursing him- he's 3 years- I said "yes" and all she said was "well, I guess it would be silly to ask if you plan to BF the new one, wouldn't it?" She did ask how it was going- I said great and she went on to say how 100 or so years ago, there would be none of this "Oh, I just couldn't do it!" talk. So, not all the WIC people are so... narrow minded :-) This office has always been pretty great.
Awesome about the license, too. Def save that!

I use to work at WIC, as a breastfeeding peer counselor, and I can tell you A LOT of people are surprised as to how long I nursed my son. My son nursed past two and self weaned when I got pregnant. But also a lot of the moms, are stunted by the people out side who push a bottle fed image. I had a lot of moms that I personally worked with who could have bf'd on past 6 mo but DH didn't want them to, they did't want to confuse the baby by dropping in a child care...blah blah blah...It's sad...but I always said, well you nursed for as long as you did, and that is what is important!

My WIC nutritionist was a little taken back when I told her that I didn't need the formula or the baby food coupons. She told me that they don't see too many moms that EBF. But I nursed DD1 till she weaned at 2.5, so we'll see what happens with DD2.

It was really common, today I heard that a lot more moms are staying EBF and doing it a lot longer than ever!! It excited me today at work when I was asked for pumping/storage guidelines, and the other moms wanted the info sheet so I grabbed a handful from the desk so I would have some for everyone...and one mom...with the oldest baby among them all said she doesn't pump because her baby had never taken a bottle ever...All the other mom's were impressed it could be done. for her!!!

I'm nursing DD in my renewed paramedic license picture. We just took it yesterday! The guy didn't say a word. Not a word. I think he was ooged out.

I was wearing my then 3 week old in a mei tai in my last driver's license photo. Sat and nursed her (in the mei tai of course) while I was sitting there waiting my turn for the paperwork and photo turn. Didn't phase any of the busy DMV folks, although the college boys gave me a wider-than-normal berth on the bench seat there. Teehee.

I'm still known in some circles for nursing a newborn (same one!) while signing car loan papers - kiddo on my left arm, pen in my right hand. In the middle of the open lobby of a bank. No goofy coverup either - I can't imagine how those aren't awkward, but that could just be clumsy me.
