Pregnant and meds

Thread Starter
I went to the doc today because I recently found out i was pregnant. I was told that I could say on my meds and when i got pregnant I could wean off. This guy I saw today was new. He completely flipped out when i told him what med i was on (trileptal). Spent 30 minutes or longer (not exaggerating at ALL) telling me all the things that may be wrong with my baby. So now I am FREAKING out!! I don't know how I am going to make it through the next 9 months. Any advice? Anyone been through something similar? I am just freaking out right now.

I don't know much about Trileptal but I'm pretty sure that it's a Class C, right? In general, Class C drugs are used with caution during pregnancy but there isn't necessarily enough evidence of harm to the unborn baby. I would definately talk to another OB and get another opinion. Even if the next one agrees with the initial opinion, hopefully he won't be so over-the-top with his reaction. It was completely unnecessary for him to react that way.

FWIW, I am pregnant and on Lamictal. I've checked and double checked with my pdoc, and she says that she feels completely comfortable with my continuing treatment throughout my pregnancy.

I see my OB next week, so I'll see what he says then.
