help me find a babywearing device for my one year old!

Hi, I have a 1 year old DD and she has been walking since she was 10.5 mo. old. She is still not the best walker and falls a bit. she catches her self with her hands but still the floor is yucky in public. I used to wear her in the moby wrap ALL THE TIME but when she turned 8 mo old she just got to heavy (I could never figure out the back carry or hip carry ) so I stopped using it then I got a SLinling and that just did not work for me, very uncomfortable. So I gave up. But now she refuses to be in the stroller (actually I think she always hated it but we didn't use it enough for me to know.) So I end up walking around with my purse, diaper bag and carrying her while pushing a stroller. NOT working! can any one recommend a good carrier for me to use with her? She weighs 25 LBS if that makes a difference.
thanks!

i love my Ergo. DD is 16 months and near 24 lbs. I can still comfortably carry her on my front or back for long periods of time without being sore. Back is better for longer amounts of time, but still, I can do the front carry for about an hour before getting too sore.

Ds is 27lbs & I love the ergo. I can carry him on my back for hours.

Alternatively, did you try your sling in a hip carry? We find our ring sling works well for a hip carry for shorter durations.

Mei tai! My favorite is the kozy.

I tried wearing her on my hip in the sling but it felt like my shoulder was going to be sliced off! Are these suggestions easy to do the back carry? usually when I go out with her and we need a carrier it is just me and her, I have scoliosis so it would be more comfortable for me to wear her on the back rather than the hip I imagine...

Both Ergo (or Manduca, as they are quite similar, Beco too I think?) and MeiTai work best for front and back carry. I have a MeiTai and an Ergo. If we are going for a longer walk, and I think she'll sleep in there, I'll choose my MeiTai (especially as it has spreadable straps, so nice for long walks!). But if we're out playing, she is walking and might get tired, or we're biking up to the supermarket, and I want her contained in there, I'll choose the Ergo, as it is quicker and easier to put on in the street with a wriggly toddler!

How is the ergo for long walks? Does the padded strap concept work, or does it just add bulk?

I find a mei tai or woven wrap fantastically comfortable for a back carry, and both are easy to put on, with a little practice. These work great with this age/weight!

I use it on long walks/hikes quite a lot and it works really great for me! I think I tried more than six other carriers before I settled on that one close to three years ago.

Another vote for an Ergo.

A two shoulder carrier for sure! Ok, so for my kids at that age, I've used most a mei tai or a woven wrap. A short woven wrap was great because it also worked as a hip carrier when I needed to do that, but most of the time I used it as a back carrier. Another option is a buckle carrier, like a Pikkolo or Ergo where you can just put it on quickly.

Ergo! My 23 mo old is about 26 lbs and I've worn him for a couple of hours at a time with no problem, no discomfort.

In fact, I prefer it over all my other carriers. I've used padded ring slings, unpadded ring slings, mei tais, and even tried a wrap (oh my -- I am wrap challenged! ) and I much prefer my Ergo.

DD was in a Mei Tai on my back from about 10 months until... well, she was there once this summer at the age of four! I have a Babyhawk, but the old kind, and I love it. I haven't tried any other brands.

We have a SSC called an Angelpack. It's really nice, though we need to do a back carry if we are going to do a long walk.
