Middle-of-the-night mamas :D

I'm reassured to see that I'm not the only one checking our DDC at 4:30-5:00AM!!!
This insomnia thing is totally new to me -- never in my life have I been unable to sleep all night long.

If any of you have survived this before... please please tell me that it gets better after the baby comes! (I know I won't be getting lots of sleep, far from it, but I really hope it won't hurt so damned much in my hips, back, falling-asleep arms/hands, etc!)

I think it gets better after the baby. I can totally sleep through nursing the baby in the middle of the night, just half waking up to latch on.

I can't, however, sleep through getting up in the chilly night to use the bathroom 4 times or ignoring my growling belly b/c I haven't eaten in the last few hours while I was trying to sleep. The anticipation is getting to me a little bit too.

I'm not always able to sleep well either! Hope you're able to get some sleep!!

I was up at 4:15 to use the bathroom, and then my growling tummy kept me awake. I finally gave up at 5:30.

I don't know what it's going to be like after a 2nd baby, but after I had my first I felt SO rested. He'd nurse once in the middle of the night, and then I'd let him be my alarm clock at 6:30 or 7:00 for his next feeding. I hope I am so lucky this time around!

and then of course once you have peed and have your 5am snack, your bloodsuger is up so you can't sleep. I'm there alot of nights. Last night the computer saved me, I think I was able to pop this kid up and out of my pelvis by sitting on my sacrum. Last night's prodromal/early labor was SO nasty! Yikes!

I've taken to sleeping on the couch -- it works better. Some nights DP takes the dog (Zelda, our 120 lb bullmastiff mix) in to bed with him. Some nights he leaves her here with me.
Tonight he left her... and we snoozed happily together until at 4:ish she sprawled out in a way that left no room for my lower half. I wake up with one leg pinned, the other off the couch in the cold air. Urgh! So I have to pry myself off the couch from under/around her... and try to wake her up. I love that doggie, but I swear she sleeps more soundly than any creature. Only the sound of the cold cut drawer and a piece of salami coming out of its package will get her to stir! I usually don't like to resort to bribery with the dog -- mostly she listens to me if I get the right assertive tone of voice going. But at 4:30 AM we do what we must!
So now she's in bed with DP, and I'm awake out here. I'm going to try to stretch out and sleep some more. Gnight! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm awake too...I figured I'd post something for to read for anyone else who's awake. Talula seems to be cluster feeding and b/c of acid reflux needs to be propped up for a 1/2 hour after eating. (eating every hour and a half...so I'm not sleeping tonight).

We have the same issue with sweet dog. He's not nearly as big, but still a heft 70lbs. A big shaggy, white standard poodle. He easily takes up 3/4 of the bed and often stretches in a way that I'm falling off the couch.

...I am soooo tired. How long does cluster feeding last???

I'm up! As usual. Baby turns breech or transverse while I sleep and I wake up in a panic so I'm always switching back and forth. But you can only do that so many times a night before it is just better to give up. The baby position thing is wearing heavily on my sanity.
