Making TF foods seem less 'healthy' - Page 2

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem! Over the weekend I gave in and bought some sliced deli meat (the healthiest I could find - probably still not great, but it definitely could have been worse), some hot dogs (we can't get Applegate Farms or anything similar here - in the UK hot dogs of any sort are a real novelty, so we have to take what we can get), and some store-bought crackers with 'snacky cheese' (wensleydale with cranberries). DP was pretty thrilled.

It's a good idea to make a roast and slice it for deli meat. Don't know why I didn't think about that...thanks for the idea! Having pre-made little containers of chicken salad or egg salad is good too. I'm not sure how well homemade crackers would go over. I'll try them and see. Maybe if I make a little cardboard box to keep them in...

It is hard not to take it personally when DP would rather have 'crap' from the store over nice home-baked things, but I guess in the end it means less work for me.

okay, I know this thread is old, but I had to share my thoughts on this. My hubby is very opinionated on his food, but I have to say, I've done a pretty good job converting his diet. When he was in college, he would eat store brand ramen and 29 cent fast food hamburgers and lots of diet soda. Over the years we've been married, I've gotten him off the white bread for sandwiches(we use nature's own, all whole ingredients, no HFCS), natural deli meat, 80% of the time organic meats. He's reduced his diet soda consumption significantly, eats mostly whole grain but still has his vices. The only things that I buy him at the store is the wheat bread, lunchmeat, cheese and diet soda. Everything else that he wants for himself that I won't even touch he buys himself when he goes to costco. The packaged queso, salsa, chips, m&ms, stuff like that. But you know what? I cook home made meals, and yes it could be a lot less work for me because he would be willing to spend the extra money that it cost to buy more convenience foods, but it's important to me to make meals from scratch and as healthy as possible, so I do my thing and he does his. He does like the meals I make more now since I've gone TF, since I'm no longer on the lowfat, low salt, bacon and butter and meat is bad for you bandwagon that I used to be on. Our son is only 14 months old and doesn't really know the difference between good food and junk food yet because I'm usually the one feeding him, so I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
