Is there a credible link between vaccines and auto-immune disorders?

Title pretty much says it all. Thank you.

I may be wrong, but I believe a number of vaccine inserts explicitly list autoimmune disorders (e.g., GBS) as possible side effects.

What is GBS? The only one I know is Group B Strep, which I do not think is auto-immune.

I researched this pretty heavily when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. For my disorder, Hep B is linked (which I received as an adult) as a workplace requirement.

I agree with pp though, I believe that some vax inserts state GBS specifically. But, I'm not sure about the blanket "autoimmune disorder".

Is there a credible link that says vaxes do NOT contribute or cause auto-immune disorders?

Here is a link that I saved explaining why vaxs can cause autoimmune disorders.

And for balance here is an article from the Lancet.

In the book The Truth About Childrens Health by Robert Bernardini, M.S. he lists alot of GOOD research claming vaccines cause auto immune problems. Particularly the pertussis vaccine causing type 1 diabetes.

This piece was not impressive when you delve more deeply than the headlines. Of the sections I read, when you take each study individually, it doesn't sound so convincing.

It gets back to the point for me of how ludicrous it is to set up a study comparing the rate of diabetes in children who get vaccine at x months or y months and compare. The unvaccinated groups are almost never really unvaccinated children, which is a HUGE point.

When dealing with such a big issue of whether vaccines cause an increased likelihood of autoimmune disorders, it is rather small minded to think that just testing one vaccine for one autoimmune disorder would be able to validate that statement. I have a hard time swallowing that any educated person could think this way.

Larger scale studies of traditionally vaccinated and completely unvaccinated children need to be compared on a variety of autoimmune issues in order to convince me and thousands of other parents on this forum.

I believe in my heart of hearts that vaccines cause these in some people, but if this test would be properly conducted, I would be open to admitting I was wrong. But I am not holding my breath that this will ever happen.

this is one of those depends who you ask and what you concider credible. I recommend researching it for yourself and finding your own answers based on what you think is credible.

Whats many here concider credible I don't, and vice versa. Same with any forum.

The vaccine insert for the H1N1 vaccine (Sanofi Pasteur) says:

Recurrence of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been temporally associated with the administration of influenza vaccine. The decision to give Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine to individuals who have a prior history of Guillain-Barré syndrome should be based on careful consideration of the potential benefits and risks.
It also says the "following events were observed post-vaccine use", but says there's no way to show a causal link:
Quote:

Blood and Lymphatic System Disorders: Thrombocytopenia, lymphadenopathy

Immune System Disorders: Anaphylaxis, other allergic/hypersensitivity reactions (including
urticaria, angioedema)

Nervous System Disorders: GBS, convulsions, myelitis (including encephalomyelitis and
transverse myelitis), facial palsy (Bell’s palsy), optic neuritis/neuropathy, brachial neuritis,
syncope (shortly after vaccination), dizziness, paresthesia
IIRC, one of the reasons there's been so much uproar over the h1n1 vax is that when the original vax was administered (1979? 1972? can't remember), there was a very clear causal effect between vaccination and G-B syndrome (and a lot of people died from the vaccine as well).

Please continue H1N1 specific discussion in the threads listed in our forum announcement.
