Castor oil and NOT working for anyone??

My DH is picking some up tonight on his way home from work and I am ready to just do it and have this baby. I have been having prodromal labor for 2 weeks now and am exhausted! I am 39w2d along and just ready to meet my little blessing! Nesting set in heavily last night and all day today. Copious discharge but no bloody show or anything! So, my midwife friend is coming tonight to feel for position of baby and if all is well, I am going to do the castor oil!

My question is: Has it ever not worked for anyone?? If I take it tonight after dinner, what are the odds of getting things moving along this evening into tomorrow morning?? I know it depends on how much your body so based on that, do things typically get moving quickly???

Thanks so much for any input and responses!!! Ready for my little one!

I (from a clinical perspective) would wait and do it in the morning after you get some sleep. I would probably combine it with other things (herbs, nip stim etc.) We see about a 50% success rate at home for induction. I have seen it work better if you are already in labor but things are slow and your water has broken.

I personally would do it before walking into the hospital for an induction but not otherwise since the with my luck it would just lead to lots of uncomfort and prodonal labor with no baby at the end.

Good luck I was dreaming about doing it last night so I could have this baby!

It didn't work for my SIL. Results but no contractions if you get my drift. My only concern would be dehydration and I second getting a good night's sleep!

It did nothing aside from give me a really sore behind (sorry TMI heh) when I was pregnant with my first son. And I took it at 41 weeks 4 days.

It worked great for me. I did it at night after a regular dinner. It hit me at 2:30 am. I was up for an hour in the bathroom before I realized I was all clean and the contractions I was having were not from the castor oil any longer. I agree with completebeginnings and wait til morning (after a good nights sleep).
Good luck!

I personally wouldn't use it until morning. That way you get a full nights sleep and you have the energy for labor. For me the castor oil gave me contractions within 2 hours of taking it!

Also, if you're not dilated or anything I'd skip it.

I went ahead a took it after a good meal and hydrating all day and evening. I took 2 oz. with orange juice. I have had loose bowel movements all day so I wasn't expecting a whole bunch of action there :*) Well, I did have a bout on the potty for a couple minutes and after that...nothing! It's been almost 2 hours and even though I feel more cervical pressure and have peed a thousand times, nothing in the way of imminent labor. Just burping castor oil...BLAH!!! I was really hoping for something. I was going to wait til morning but I haven't had a good night's rest in over 2 weeks so it wouldn't matter for that reason and I would rather have a night born baby than day born as I have an almost 2 year old and it would make my stress level a little less as far as he is concerned. OH WELL!!!! I guess I am back to waiting on the baby to decide when he/she is ready! Thanks for your replies!!!
