Ugh..I got a cold

At least it's not the swine flu. I work on a college campus and it's definitely going around. But I got something from them. I swear, undergrads are even germier than the little kiddos I used to teach.

So I have a sore throat and runny nose and am 39 weeks pregnant and really don't want to go into labor feeling like this...but I really want to have this baby soon!

Ugh! Feel better soon!!!
I also feel like I have something brewing in my sinuses... DP is in the Air Force and guys are in and out of his base from all over the world. I think they import bugs from every continent to share with their families!!!
I'm with you -- I do NOT want to be feeling sick when I have to labor this baby into the world!!!

I feel for you! I caught a cold from my DH and am praying the baby doesn't get it. It's a nasty one, too. It went right into my chest. Here's hoping your cold is short-lived and you are back to normal for the birth!

i, too, work on a college campus.. in the library. it has been difficult to be in a happy mood while listening to all the students sit on the computers and sneeze and hack everywhere. i went out on maternity leave early- yesterday was my last day, and I'm 38 weeks today.
could you start your leave early to rest up from the cold and not catch anything else? i TOTALLY agree about the undergrad germiness. they also don't have enough manners to throw away their used tissues, omg!

My husband just came down with a cold (I'm not even to going to allow the possibility of the flu) yesterday and has been sick in bed with a fever and cough and sniffles. He's kind of freaking out, so I'm trying to stay calm and reassure him that the baby isn't going to come for another week anyway.

Really the only thing I'd be worried about would be a fever during labor that would risk us out for a homebirth---anyone have any experience with being sick and home birthing?

Luckily I don't have a fever, and I don't feel bad enough to have a flu.

But I was wondering about passing along these germs to my little one. Like, would she have the antibodies already or if I'm still sick when she comes out and I breathe on her will she get sick. Welcome to the world, baby, here's a cold! That's terrible.

I'm working from home from this point on, to rest up and not expose myself to anything else.

Lots of fluids, neti pot, tea with honey, etc. I'm just thinking about all of the breathing practices I have learned in prenatal yoga that I can't really do with a clogged up nose! I sound like Darth Vadar.

If it makes you feel any better DH was sick when the baby was born 10 days ago so she has been exposed to this her whole life and thus far hasn't had any symptoms. If you breastfeed your body will pass antibodies from this illness to her to help protect so even if baby does get sick it will be milder. I asked my midwife about the possibility of her getting this yesterday and she said often times very young babies will just bypass illnesses entirely. I had a cold when my third was born and he never caught it. I'm hoping that will be the case this time, too. With you being sick with the baby still in utero, he/she is getting antibodies from you that was as well. I'm sure the baby will be fine.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago in my 38th week. I freaked out as well! I ended up doing the netti pot, drank two packets of Emergen-C everyday, drank like 15 glasses of water each day and slept as much as I could. I knocked it out in 5 days and survived the next round that my son just recently got.
Get well soon..your energy is much needed!
