Baby acne... (Added pic) UPDATED original post

Sawyer has absolutely horrible baby acne. I mean so bad, I am embarrassed to post a pic. It's all over his cheeks, forehead, chin, neck, and some on his chest.

I know it's supposed to go away on its own, but it is so bad, I'm thinking it may be an allergy or something. I use Dreft detergent for everything for both Lucas and Sawyer. I have always been bummed because Dreft is scented. But it never caused Lucas any problems. Also, it might be a food allergy of some sort. Do you think dairy could be the cause? I'm going to try cutting that out and see what happens. Poor baby!

Also, I have read in the past that applying a little breastmilk to the bumps will help them heal. Anyone had any luck with that? Any other "remedies" you care to share?

Thanks!

ETA a pic http://app2.sellersourcebook.com/use...5/img_8382.jpg

ETA I am almost positive it is a dairy sensitivity!

My flaky self ate a bowl of cereal with organic milk this morning. He had gas. He cried some, and he was definitely uncomfortable. Sawyer is NOT a crier, unless something is wrong. I realized right away that I had flaked and taken dairy. I went the rest of the day with no dairy, and not only has he not cried once, he slept very very well today and his face looks a little better. The bumps aren't as red.

I also cleaned his face with a warm wet washcloth and applied breastmilk today. I'm going to keep trying the no dairy and breaskmilk applications and see if we can't get rid of this awful rash already! He has baby dedication at church on 11/15. We have to e-mail a picture of Sawyer that will be put up on the big screens when they call his name. I really want this stuff gone so he can take a cute pic.

Thanks so much for the advice, ladies!

Vivienne has some on her cheeks and chin. We're just wiping her down with a warm wet washcloth.

My DD (oldest DD, now 8) had it as a newborn/baby and I found out later it was due to allergies in her food. I formula fed her and had a hard time getting the right formula back then.

Cora has it also, pretty bad, like you i am not taking her picture right now. haha. I read up in "life with babe" and someone there recommended Mustela baby wash stuff, so i just ordered some from amazon

this stuff
http://www.mustelausa.com/phisiobebe.html

it also comes in wipes and i ordered those as well.

i will let you know if it helps at all. but so far i have just been wiping with warm wash cloth. i also hate when she cries cause it gets worse. poor baby. hopefully she won't have acne later on in life and this will be it (mom says i had it bad as well and i never had acne in puberty)

Rebecca,

My DD had acne as bad and maybe even worse from what I can tell in your pic. We did the do nothing route, just cleaned her face each day with a wet cloth - no soap or lotion. It is clearing up on its own, but it has taken more than 3 weeks. As it was going away, her skin was VERY rough, but is now looking almost normal. Now we are fighting w/ cradle cap -- guess it is always something. I am sorry your babe is going through this. It is hard to remember that they don't feel anything. It is just really annoying when people at the grocery store say crap like "what is wrong w/ her face". Come on people, can you be a little more sensative?!?!?!

Rita has a little on her cheeks and chin & I have been wondering if there is anything you can do?? Apparently it will clear on its own in a few weeks.

I've never done anything to treat it when it popped up. Keagan has it as well- to some degree- it's less severe than the pic you posted, but annoying anyway. It seems to be starting to resolve now though- which is about the age my other kids were when theirs began to clear as well.

Crashing your DDC but my DD had acne that looked just like that. It was a total bummer. We did nothing but water on her face and it cleared up with in a month, less I think. You would never know it now looking at her beautiful skin!

If it's hormonally based, which it usually is, then nothing you do will make it go away, except time.

But, like you said in your post, it could be an allergy/intolerance. Dairy is most often the culprit! If you're inclined to try dairy-free, be sure to find the list of "hidden dairies" from www.kellymom.com If you can't find the list, write back and I'll find it for you, it's a printable wallet card that lists every food ingredient that may have dairy in it. I had to be very STRICT no dairy and no soy with Connor because of serious reflux and failure to thrive, and that wallet card was a life saver!!!

my baby has it too, bummer. no pics

we have it too.

nico has horrid baby acne and really greasy hair! it's stinky! where's that good newborn smell?

any other mama's having their skin break out, too?

this hormone shifting is for the birds. no loving it. my skin is going back to it's normal (not glowing) state and my hair feels like straw which means it'll soon all fall out like last time. sigh!

DDS crashing from new posts...

DD had some baby acne and my midwife told me to wash her face with just warm water and a cloth and then gently and carefully apply some oil (we use California Baby super-sensitive but olive oil works as well). Sounds like the opposite of what you would normally do for *acne* but I swear, hers cleared up within a day or so! I really could not believe how well it worked. It has also been great for her cradle cap.

Congrats and good luck!

DDC crashing. .

My September(O8) baby had terrible acne too. It was so bad on his eyes that they were swollen shut and they would break open and the ooze would crust his eyes over. One of our local LLL leaders suggested breastmilk and it worked amazingly well! By three weeks it was almost completely cleared up.

At this point he has no allergies or sensitivities.

Sarah Brooke has baby acne, too and her hair seems to be greasy. I have been washing it every two or three days with Johnson's and thought maybe I was using too much shampoo or not rinsing well enough but I have made sure to make adjustments and it is still like that. Probably nothing we can do. I have had one really young child ask if Sarah had blood on her face as her acne at times can be really red. Now, I think I just found a port wine stain on the back of her neck mostly under her hair but I don't want that there either. Why do they get those?

Are you sure that wasn't eczema? I have fingertip eczema and that can ooze and crust. Also, it itches really badly. If anyone in your family has it baby more than likely will too. It can be hard to identify and seperate the two.

I don't think so. No one else has any sort of skin condition and he is now 3 years old with no skin conditions. Just the most profuse case of baby acne I've ever seen. I remember it getting super bad 2-3 days after birth. On the 3rd day we started with the breastmilk and by 10 days it was almost gone. I know it was done when I had professional pics taken at three weeks.
