How EC saved the day

Since I just started EC'ing with ds2, I've been reminded of this story from ds1 where EC'ing REALLY saved the day!

When ds1 was 5 mos old, we flew from one side of the country to the other. We took sposies, and packed more than enough for the trip, and even little delays or what have you. But we didn't plan on all the little delays adding up to having to stay overnight in the airport, and not getting in for a FULL day after we were supposed to.
During the trip, I did some EC'ing. Close to the end of the pack of sposies, I did even more. lol.
By the time we got to our destination, we were on our LAST diaper. And it was very wet. If I hadn't caught the pees that I caught, it would have been a majorly bad thing. lol.

As it was, we got there on Christmas Eve, and had a hard time finding a place that was open to get diapers. I think we paid something like $1/ diaper. lol.

So that's how EC'ing saved the day for us. Anybody else have any similar stories?

Yes! When DD was three months old, we went on a week-long trip to Virginia. I was absolutely determined NOT to use sposies (I *can't stand* the way they smell), but we did use a couple of gDiapers during the drive up. Anyway, we had plenty of prefolds for the trip, and we were staying at my in-laws house so we were able to do laundry there. But for the weekend we were staying out at a cabin where we couldn't do laundry. I was sure we had plenty of diapers, but my pile seemed to disappear a lot faster than I expected! By the end of the weekend I had DD nakey-butt outside...and I had the whole family lining up to see "the amazing peeing baby." They all thought it was the coolest thing ever. (DD literally got a round of applause after one pee off the cabin steps, when I didn't even realize everybody was watching! LOL!)

Anyway, I saved one pocket diaper for the car trip back to the house, and we made it back and I did laundry. It wasn't until we got HOME from the whole trip that I found a big bag of clean prefolds in my trunk! They'd been there the whole time, and I hadn't realized it....!

Too funny about the round of applause- I can totally see my family doing that!

i have been caught out without diapers many times and managed to get home without issue. of course i always blamed EC for putting me in a state of mind that would allow me to walk out the door without checking to see if had diapers first i guess i was seeing the glass half empty instead of half full!

for the most part, though, i tend to be one of those people who packs enough diapers on a weekend trip that would normally last us about 2 weeks, catching virtually everything and only dirtying like 2 diapers and thinking to myself "what on earth did i drag all these diapers along for?!"

lisavark - i love the applause story! that is so cute! the amazing peeing baby. tee hee

We had a similar thing where we got stuck in the airport and didn't have enough diapers to make it home. I think I caught just about everything and only changed her a few times. Luckily my toddler was PLing at the time and would go in the public restrooms as well, or we would have been totally out of diapers for him in a hurry (we didn't EC with him).

I often leave the house without checking to see if we have enough diapers, but wouldn't you know it, she almost always makes it through the whole thing without peeing in her sposie. I've thrown some dry ones away because we've used them for 4 or 5 outings and they're falling apart after you open and close them so many times. I think I really should just make the switch to cloth trainers or AIOs for outings, but I'm too chicken.

I also love thinking about how dang long it's been since I had to change a "blowout" out in public. With DS, this happened all the time before solids. He pooped pretty much every time we got in the car. I don't think I've changed a poopy diaper out in public with DD for a few months now.
