BV (bacterial vaginosis) - Page 3

Wow, congrats Mammakatie! I'm sure that would be safe to do in pregnancy, but it might be worth following up with a test to confirm the BV is gone. The smell had gone away for me but I still tested positive. And since BV in pregnancy carries with it the risk of premature labor, it would be good to have confirmation that whatever regimine is tried did indeed work. So glad it cleared it up for you. That sounds really hard to have had it for years and be self conscious from it.

A natural (and cheap!) remedy that works well against BV is a vinegar sitz bath (great for UTIs too). Fill a sitz bath with half warm water, half vinegar and relax for 15 minutes. Along with helping keep the pH in line, vinegar has antibiotic properties as well.

A nurse-friend told me about this, and it has worked miracles for my SIL who had frequent BV problems as well as chronic UTIs (and interstitial cystisis) where even prophylactic antibiotics weren't working anymore. She does her sitz bath 3-4 times a week, and hasn't had problems in almost 3 years.

Rinsing with a half vinegar/half water peri-bottle after intercourse helps keep things comfortable down there too.

Hi all! I posted yesterday in the May2010 DDC--I've got a yeast infection and BV, lucky me! Actually I am lucky as it hasn't been particularly uncomfortable and hasn't included any gross discharge or smells.

My (homebirth) midwife and I are approaching this holistically. I'm doing vaginal garlic for 2 weeks, then a vag probiotic for another fortnight.

My midwife has a 3 page handout on handling vag infections holistically, including yogurt, cider vinegar, probiotics, and more. Email me at pchamsia@yahoo.com if you want me to fwd it to you. We're travelling for Christmas but I could get it to you on the 29th.

Hope everyone's feeling ok and that our flora will all regulate!
Happy Holidays...

i never tested + for bv, but definitely had it while pg with dd. i never smelled anything (stuffy pg nose) but as soon as dd was born, my nose cleared up and i smelled the WORSE smell in my whole life.

not to offend, but my yoni smelled like a bum who has been peeing on himself for 10 years and then slept in a pile of dead fish. it was almost enough to knock me out. dh was too nice to say anything and my mw never did either. i guess because all my tests came back negative. i even thought i had a mild fistula for a while.

i douched with 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water several times per day (very gently, with the inserted only halfway in) and put capsules of goldenseal in my yoni, behind my cervix.

it was gone within a few days.

i always bought the disposable douche bottles, dumped them out and refilled them with my mixture. then i washed them with hp after i used one, so they were sanitized. then i would just re-use. they usually have screw on/off lids that make it easy to clean and re-use. if i used one for a yogurt cleanse, i would just toss it after.
