This makes me so sad.

I'm not sure if I"m even allowed to post this, but I found this advertised in my city's parenting magazine:

http://www.circumcisioncalgary.ca/index.htm

Keep in mind I'm in Canada and knowing that there aren't many doctors performing this in my city makes me feel better, but just seeing this in our magazine and knowing that it reaches thousands of parents and parents-to-be just makes me very sad.

Let's just say that my husband will NOT be getting his vasectomy done there (this doc also performs them).

ugh! yuck!

'Excellent Cosmetic Result '

I just keep imagining how this (by some) is seen as acceptable, yet if a baby girl was being talked about people would be up in arms. grrrr!! drives me insane!

The part that really annoyed me was where it was stated why some parents would not want to circumcise their son:

"They are unsure of medical reasons in favour of circumcision"

Unsure? That implies to me uneducated, and I can assure him that anyone I know who did their research and educated themselves decided NOT to circumcise.

Hi, please note our Healthcare Provider Review Policy here. Participants are welcome to dispute information in an educational effort (which is the point of TCAC), however please be cautious to avoid disparaging anyone. Keep it about the information rather than individuals. Thanks!

Positive healthcare provider reviews are welcome. Please use careful language when responding to or soliciting a review. We do not wish to host negative remarks or comments about practitioners, practices, hospitals or healthcare centers that might cast them in a negative light and which would present liability concerns for you and for Mothering. Negative comments that are verifiable facts of public record or court ruling are acceptable. Please avoid speculation and/or gossip. Please contact the provider or care center directly with any concerns or questions.
Please PM me or a forum moderator with any questions, thanks!

Wow.

Click on More about Circumcision. Just look at the way the language is in the sections about why parents choose to circumcise or not.

In the pro section, all the statements are clear-cut and concise...the medical research shows unequivocally that there are these benefits (whether true or not). And then for the con section, it's all about the parents being 'unsure' and 'wondering'. UGH.

No words to say...just depressing.

Even in Canada, circumcisions will continue as long as the law allows doctors to perform the cutting of baby boys for any non-therapeutic reason.... or so called "pseudo medical reasons" (i.e. prevent potential infection) sad but true. The day will come when little boys' penises are protected and respected just like the genitals of little girls. Just keep speaking up and spreading the message to protect all children.

The link claims:

Learn more about the Mogen Circumcision Technique, a new, safe and virtually painless procedure performed in less than a minute.

This procedure is certainly not new (invented in 1954) and can still cause injuries. The FDA even issued a warning about it a few years ago:

I live outside Calgary and have seen those ads before. Makes me want to barf every time.

I don't understand why people think it is so complicated to care for an intact penis, when there is a huge list of do's and don't's for a circumsized one.

I just. don't. get. it.

Research shows that:

It reduces the risk of urinary tract infections
It reduces the risk of penile infections
It eliminates the need to do it later in life when up to 6% of boys will require a circumcision because of various problems. (When it is done later in life, it is a more costly, difficult and riskier procedure requiring a general anesthetic, and is more painful).
It reduces the risk of getting some sexually transmitted diseases including Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and AIDS (HIV).
It reduces the risk of penile cancer and cervical cancer in partners.
Circumcised men have less risk of sexual dysfunction later in life.
Okay...can I puke now?

Oh really?! That is why Viagra is so popular in the US, but not in intact Europe.

Not to mention K-Y jelly, Extenze/Enzyte and a HOST of other products.
It's all part of a humongous profiteering scheme.
