Today while I was at work I was informed that DS did not take a nap. He was fighting it so much that DH just gave up, the same thing almost happened with us the day before, but I kept trying for a very long time and finally DS caved. So anyway, when I got home I fully expected a trantrum throwing, crazy, overtired toddler, but this wasn't the case. Yes, he was a little more sensitive but otherwise he was just fine, and then tonight he fell asleep within 15min. No fight whatsoever. DS is 17 months and has turned into an all night nurser and wakes up too early for my liking, he also takes around an hour to fall asleep every night. So did we just get lucky with tonight? 17months seems awfully young to not nap at all and honestly I don't know what I'd do without those couple of "free" hours during the day, but could this really be the answer to DS's sleep issues? Maybe I am getting ahead of myself, I guess the real test will be to see how he actually sleeps tonight. Anyone have a toddler that doesn't "need" a nap anymore? And did it help with overall sleep at nighttime?

i battled with my first dd to get her to nap until i had the same thing happen-she skipped naptime and started to do an earlier bedtime, and slept much better at night. she wasn't much older than your LO, I forget her exact age but it was before she turned 2.i know several other people whose kids did the same thing. most kids drop naptime on their own somewhere between 2-3 yrs old, but some go earlier, some later.
