This is so bad. I'm not sure I can do this...**UPDATE in first post**

I had my first child in the hospital after 54 hours of back labor. I always thought that the reason my labor took so long was because my midwife swept my membranes and it irritated my uterus. I mean, my contractions kicked in immediately and were super painful for the next 2+ days. Apparently though, that's not the reason because it is happening again. Baby is posterior (so was DS) and I am having such painful contractions. I was up for hours last night dealing with the back pain and they were off an on again all day.

I just keep thinking back to DS labor and realizing i'm not strong enough for this. I thought I would be fine with a homebirth because I just won't let them sweep my membranes and irritate my uterus. I don't even have the option of using my midwife at the hospital where I can get some pain relief. I'm so scared right now. I just know these contractions are going to kick into high gear and last for two days again

Here's my update!!!

Jack Aaron was born October 19th at 11:45am after about 12 hours of intense back labor. I was wrong about the contractions lasting two days but they were pretty irregular. In fact I was calling the midwife to tell her I was going to the hospital for drugs but she came to check me and four hours later Jack was born at home in the water!!! I will post the full story later. He is nursing like a chammp so far and weighed 7 lbs 12oz and was 20 in long.
Thanks for reading. I know there's not much to say.

You can do it. It is worth it. Just rest as much as you can and give your self a break.

This is easier said than done, but please take it 1 minute at a time. If you are worried about 54 hours then you will get yourself all tensed up and that fear won't help, and 54 hours is where you'll end up.
I'm afraid, believe me. This is my first time, I have no idea what to expect! But I know that if I get myself in a state where I'm focused on what I CAN'T do, I will fail. I'm trying to remind myself that I AM strong, and I CAN do it.
You can do it. Really, you can. Be strong!

Saw this in new posts...

You can do it. You ARE doing it.

Every labor is different. Don't get stuck thinking it will be the same as last time. Get some support, from your midwife, a friend...figure out some ways to get yourself as comfortable as possible. Meanwhile, don't forget that you are a strong, amazing woman. You go!

Go get a sheet, sling it under your belly, have your partner, doula or midwife grab each side, pull up and jiggle your belly side to side. It should be enough to get baby to pop out and rotate to an anterior position and thus help the back pain. All fours position is great for a posterior baby and allows for counter pressure on your sacrum. You can also have your hips pushed together... really helps the pain. Labor is an amazing tool for getting the baby to shift positions, do what you can to take advantage of that! Take it one min at a time, one contraction at a time. You can do this!

My son was born posterior and I had major back labor. Getting on hands and knees and rocking hips side to side may help. In the shower, direct hot water spray on lower back. A heating pad or microwavable heating pillow can relieve the pain a little. Sitting on a ball, while partner is behind massaging back. I didn't get to try the bath, but that may give some relief. Your midwife may have some good ideas on relieving pain and moving baby into a good position.
You can do this!

oh, : I know it's scary, but the pp is right, every labor is different. mine started exactly the same this time (even same hour of the day, day of the week, and day of the month! and dd was in the same position as ds, too) but it was a much shorter and easier labor anyway.

you will get there. really you will. and then you will feel fabulous!

Great suggestions by everyone!! I just want to throw my two cents in and say that if you end up in the hosp. because you can't take the pain, don't beat yourself up about it. Hang in there and know we are all cheering you on

Yes! Two out of our five were painful back labor babies-the first I didn't use any of the techniques mentioned, and the second I used a LOT of hands and knees, rocking, hot shower on my back and the second labor went far quicker than my first malpresentation and made a world of difference.

You can do this, and try the tips here, they can help! s

Have you tried moxabustion to move the baby? There's a point on the outer pinkie toe for this. If you don't have access to a moxa stick, you can use a laser pointer or even just press on it.
