soo.. what are the chances that after going through a hot wash, double hot rinse, with the water heater turned all the way up (and given time to heat up properly before starting the load) with vinegar in the wash cycle, and a downy ball of vinegar for the rinse cycle, and then a hot, 80 minute dry... what are the chances that yeast can survive to reinfect the babe? I think I'm doing pretty darn good here, but ds's bottom says otherwise.

Yeast lives on us and in us all the time. You are not going to be able to ban it from your baby and home. It is impossible. When dd got a yeast rash, all I did was apply some Lotrimin AF cream twice a day and wash as usual. The rash cleared up and she has been fine since.

If they are synthetic materials, I would say pretty good.

All my dipes are either cotton, bamboo, or hemp. Except for pul. His yeast got so bad that at 3.5 months (5 months now) he was on diflucan. at that point it was in his mouth, neck, armpits, behind the knees, belly button, and diaper area. and bleeding. the diflucan worked, but it came back in the diaper area only. I put lotrimin on twice a day for a few WEEKS and it only *barely* stayed away. Would go back and forth between very mild, and cleared up. If I dared stop, it came back with a vengeance. I ran out of lotrimin and decided to see if a gse solution spritzed on him at every diaper change would help. It doesn't Is it realistic, though, to have him on lotrimin every day of his life?!

Wow, that's a serious yeast problem. Has your doctor done a thorough workup to address why he is having such systemic yeast problems? Have you been treated as well? I don't know if Lotrimin is safe for constant use.

With this level of severity, the reality is most likely that you would have to try to sterilize them in this way every single time you wash them, b/c as soon as you put them back on him, his skin is going to re-infect them with more yeast. KWIM? If the diaper area is the only area with the problem, I'd probably switch to sposies. Hugs, mama!

I do wash them like that every time. I'm just hoping thats enough for him to not be reinfected by them. We use sposies at night. ped hasn't looked at why.. just given the prescriptions really. i haven't been treating myself because I haven't had any symptoms. it hasnt come back in his mouth

We totally kept reinfesting the diapers when we had yeast. The yeast was in her body not the diapers but shes still kept passing it back and the rashes would flare up something terrible. We ended up totally going to sposies for a feew weeks untill the yeast totally ran its course and was totally out of her system ( a good 2-3 weeks) in the end yes it was worth it.
