colic? stomach ache? poor sophia! - Page 2

I don't know how I missed this thread originally... Caleb has reflux, but also has the writhing gas issues. I think his reflux is finally under control because he doesn't scream out in pain anymore and is starting to have happy awake time. But, he wakes up from naps after only 10 or 20 minutes, crying and writhing. I'll burp him and get a good burp, and he calms down. He also writhes all night long, even if he's sleeping. He's able to pass gas in his sleep, but the burps really wake him up.

I'm going to start giving him Hyland's colic tablets to see if they help. I also have some Mylicon, but I tried that when he was only a couple of weeks old and it didn't seem to help.

If I eat chocolate, the next 24-48 hours are pure misery. So I'm pretty sure I need to eliminate that. But as far as dairy elimination, he has NO other allergy signs, so I don't know if it's worth it. His poop is completely normal, no rashes or anything.

I wish there was a magic answer! I'm so very, very tired and feel like I made the wrong decision to have another baby.

I can tell you what has been the magic answer for us! Probiotics, specifically L. reuteri. I started a thread about it, but I'll post it here too: colic study I got the BioGaia drops they used in the study, and it's been making a huge difference in everything from gas pain to pooping to better sleep.

I also believe this most likely fruitless endeavor is going to hurt my supply. Not to mention, we refused the Vitamin K shot and I SHOULD be eating some leafy greens for the extra K (at least until the period where late onset HDN can pop up passes). Instead I'm relying on my prenatal vitamin. It's just one extra stress on me and an additional reason why I can't wait for these early weeks to be over.
Another Oct mom DDC.. glad I found this thread. Ds is the same way.. colicy gassy, super spitty, screams alot. TOTALLY new to me. DD was the most laid back, happy baby who hardly ever cried. I hate not knowing if its something I am eating or not.
I elminated dairy, soy and nuts and broccoli and tomatos for 2 weeks and noticed a huge improvment.. less spitting up, less fussiness, less screaming. I ate dairy again for a few days and he was back to being super fussy and spitting up alot more. So now I am dairy free again but not soy and I don't notice as much improvement. Its driving me insane. I worry about my own calcium intake and I am hungry all the time as my usual snacks are nuts and cheese or yogurt. I HATE being dairy free. I honestly don't know what to do. I think I am going to stay dairy free for a few more weeks- maybe till ds is 3 months and then try it again. This part of breastfeeding is soooo annoying.
I was nauseous for my entire pregnancy dammit! Now I want to enjoy food again!

I called the company to see if any local pharmacies had it in stock, and they said they could call my local Target to put an order in for me! I'll pick it up tomorrow. They're also sending me some samples of their chewable tablets and straws for my older son.
