Zyprexa,akithisia HELP!

To make a very long story short- DH got out of rehab for alcohol in July- came out on geodon and felt pretty OK. His awful Psychiatrist added vyvansse, increased the geodon and he ended up in the ER 3 times with terrors and high blood pressure.

He is now on 4 psych meds plus Zyprexa and cannot stop eating, has no short term memory at all. I left the house and came back and the door was wide open and all the lights and tv were on and he was out with our daughter.

What's my plan now? He is an unsafe caregiver. My family has stepped in to help and I'm paying for childcare as I am the breadwinner.

I'm ready for a break! He has tried to increase exercise, does hypnosis for anxiety, decreased caffiene intake...I think he will always just go back to searching for the right pill. I'm ready to separate for awhile so he can get his head screwed on straight and find a way to be a reasonably stable husband and father. HELP!

He needs to go back to a psychiatrist for med revisions. Are you sure its akathisia related to the zyprexa? What other meds is he taking? Why is he prescribed an anti-psychotic? Sounds like at the least he needs a different psychiatrist. Does he have a mental health diagnosis?

You say his psychiatrist is "awful" - has he sought out a new provider?

I'm also confused about whether or not your husband has a mental illness. He's being prescribed drugs that can be used to treat Bipolar disorder. People with Bipolar disorder notoriously have substance abuse problems.

Anyway, I've only experienced akithisia on old school anti-psychotic cocktails, not on Zyprexa. Zyprexa is really an antipsychotic miracle, save for the nonstop hunger/eating.

Anyway - good luck. I'm not sure what you're looking for here.
