Soakers, a couple of questions

I am interested in getting either a couple longies or soakers. My aunt knits and could make some for me.

1. Are soakers the underpants looking style? If worn at night, do you simply use them in place of a PUL cover? We use prefolds

2. Are longies the pants and are they meant to be worn as pants and not at night? If at night in the winter, are they the only thing on the lower body?

3. If you get wool that is already lanolized, do you lanolize it again?

4. What is the best kind of wool to get for these items? Has anyone used Baby Cashmerino?

Thanks!

yes, i suppose you could describe a soaker as looking like underpants, lol. and yes you can use them in place of a pul cover at night. you can use longies at night as well, they make wonderful pj bottoms and we dont need anything else for the leggies at night. you need to re lanolize the wool from time to time so it keeps its water resistancy (did i just make up a word? lol). i just do it when the wool starts wicking a bit more often than it had been. i have never heard of baby cashmerino, but it sound nice! lol. and hi i live in kirkland, which is pretty darn close to seattle!

1. Yes, soakers are wool pull on covers, used just like PUL covers, only I love them

2. Longies are wool pants. They are awesome because they are the diaper cover AND the pants (saves you from having to find pants that fit over a bulky prefold & cover). I plan to use them with my December newborn night and day with just a cloth dipe underneath, and socks for feet!

3. Depends on how well lanolized. If the cover feels damp after a pee, or wetness is wicking onto clothing, then relanolize. I'm looking forward to using lanolin balm from Sudz N Dudz for easy lanolizing without having to wash at the same time!

4. You could probably get some good tips on this on the arts&crafts forum under yarn crafts. Also there's a Yahoo Group for wool soakers.

I use wool exclusively for diaper covers. It is so rocking!
