Hello from a homebirth midwife in Germany!

Hi everybody!

I am Nina from Germany. I live nearby Weiden, which some military moms might know cause it's close to Grafenwoehr. I am mom to a teenager and a baby of half a year and am planning to start to work again soon as a homebirth midwife.

I thought it would be interesting to join the mothering forums, read what others have to say and also share my own knowledge.

As I'm rather new to this area (I lived abroad, but came back to Germany to birth my baby), I'd be happy to meet others who live nearby.

Also, if anybody needs a homebirth midwife, get in touch.

We are moving to Baumholder in a couple of weeks. So glad to see you here. I had both my babies at home, too. Welcome, welcome!

And welcome to you in Germany soon, EdnaMarie! I don't know anything about Baumholder, I think it's a rather countrysidish area, which can be both good and bad, of course. If you feel like visiting a town, try Heidelberg. (Preferably in Winter, when there aren't so many tourists - walk through the pedestrian zone, which is about a kilometre long, try an excellent whole grain bakery called Mahlzahn, visit the "Karlstorbahnhof" for concerts, movies and other cultural happenings and spend some time down at the river, on the "Neckarwiesen" - well, and don't forget the castle, of course, but walk up there!) You could also try Mannheim, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Trier or Saarbrücken (don't miss out on a shop called Yaayaa)...

In any case, I hope you'll enjoy your stay! Do you know how long you'll be there?

We are military, so three years!

I heard Baumholder is countryside. I do look forward to my child riding her tricycle and scooter along the sidewalks. At least they are paved, right?

We are in a town of the same size now. I don't like having to drive everywhere, but if the have a market on the base, we should be able to enjoy small-town life and fresh air. I'm excited.

I should think they might be paved... if there are any at all... hehe...

Hah, hah! Where we live now, the road to the main road is not paved. My sister's road is not paved. So, it would not be a shock to go to a rural area. The only thing I'm sad about is to be living in another rural area with limited facilities. But we'll be grateful for what we have- our first tour, and in Europe! Germany!

hello NIna,

My name is beth and I am a military wife and plan on being a certified practicing midwife this year............I am in a MEAC school graduating in March and taking the NARM in August.  But as any good military wife knows plans change.  I am moving to Germany this coming fall with my certification but am not sure how it works But I cant imagine not being a part of births.  I have caught over 20 babies this last year and really am at a loss of how to work over in Germany besides using my Rosetta Stone.   ha ha.........Thank you for your assistance I hope we are live near each other in Germany it would be great to have back up........
