Delurking to share our birth announcement:
Sawyer Jordan was born 10/14 at 10:22pm. Weighed 7lb 10 oz, 20 1/4 inches long.
He was born on big brother Presley's second birthday, in the same room at the same hospital!!
A little background- Presley's birth two years ago was LONG- 36+ hours, including 4+hours of pushing. Pitocin, two epidurals, botched catheter, etc. So, I was a little nervous about birthing again.
On the 14th, I started having some stronger, but irregular contractions around 2:30 pm. I'd had some false starts already, so I didn't think much of them. Then around 6pm they got to be 3-5 minutes apart and more uncomfortable. We had a little birthday dinner for Presley and put him to bed around 7:30 and then things really picked up. By 8:30, my husband was saying we needed to go to the hospital, but I was really afraid we would get there too early. I finally agreed around 9pm because I couldn't stay quiet through the contractions and didn't want to wake Presley.
The car ride was SO uncomfortable! My water started leaking in the car and I was feeling so much pressure and a little bit of the urge to push. We got to the hospital at 9:40 and my water fully broke as soon as we got in to the room. Then, I had a very strong urge to push. The midwife had checked me and said I was 7-8 cm but 75% effaced and she didn't want me to push. Over the next few contractions, though, baby's hb had some significant decels, so I got in to the bed and laid on my left side. That helped some, but after watching for a bit, at 10pm, the midwife said I needed to push him out and she was going to try to push my cervix over his head during contractions. That didn't turn out to be so bad but hearing it kind of freaked me out!
The midwife called me complete at 10:19 and he was born at 10:22 after two strong pushes. He had the cord wrapped around his neck, and was also born in the caul.
He has been nursing like a champ, and I am still on such a birth high! It was so amazing to be present in mind and body during birth. I feel like a superhero!!
