My first dd would take any type of thing you'd put in her mouth - loved the binky. Now I'm at a point where I might try one with Nora. She wants to comfort suck all the time too but seems more finnicky. Are there binkies that are better than others, especially for newborns? I know about the Soothies but are they really better?

Pacifiers?

Soothies are wonderful- I use pacifiers with my kids (at least the kids who accept them- Keagan used one for about three days, now he'll use one only while being worn and for the 20 seconds it takes him to fall asleep) and the soothies are by far the best. I love that there aren't any little nooks and crannies to get dirt caught, and that they are able to be used however they find themselves (they don't have a right way up.) There also aren't any hard parts. I hear gumdrops are also good, but I haven't tried them.

the only ones all 4 of my kids would take are the silicone nuks. i tried soothies with ds, no dice. soothies and gumdrops with new little princess here, no dice. we tried the mams with no success, either. the shape of the nuk works for them, i guess.
btw, if anyone wants a few gumdrop pacifiers, pm me. we have several that were barely licked- never sucked on
pink and orange ones, vanilla scent. i'm happy to give them to someone who can use them.

I think one of the things I like about them is that they aren't as 'easy' to keep in- so they are there when the child is actively sucking, bu they do fall out when they aren't. IMO- that's a good thing- DS 1 still likes having one in his bed, but he's not as scarily attached to them as many kids become.
