ReUsable Wipes? Homeade Spray?

Hi! I'm due soon and just setting up a cloth diaper station. When making your own wipes, can you just use another cloth diaper to wipe the baby, or do you need a "softer" material. I've noticed flannel and hemp re-usable (washable) wipes for sale and wasn't sure it that was hype, or if using a cloth diaper to wipe is actually too irritating (or not the right "texture"). Advice, please

Thanks!
Julie
P.S. For a bonus, are there any herbs or oils that are used in a spray bottle (or diluted soap, etc.) for making ones own spray that are particularly noteworthy? Or I'd even be very happy to hear about a store-bought product that is tried and trued (like the wipe-spray equivelent of Charlie's Soap). Thanks so much all!

I went to the dollar store and bought a few packs of baby washclothes...there were 6 in a pack, so I bought about 5 of them. They work great and I just toss them in the wash with the diapers. As for wipe solution, you could just use plain water, it's easiest. What I do is make up a big jug of distilled water, add a bit of baby shampoo and some orange scent and add it to the diaper wipe case with some wipes and it stays good until I use them all.

I have both baby wash cloths and some flannel squares that I stitched together. I like the wash cloths better.

I wouldn't use a diaper to wipe because that would make you have to wash that much more often.

I use plain water. I put the wipes in a wipes warmer (I don't even fold them, just cram them in) and pour enough water to wet them all over the top. The used wipes get tossed into the pail with the soiled diaper.

I used Thirsties Fab Wipes (really soft!) with DD. I would just moisten a wipe with tap water in the sink, as needed.

Although cloth diapers could be used as wipes, they would be rather cumbersome and increase your laundry load quite a bit.

I got a bunch of wipes from another mama FFS. I store them in a wipe warmer with tap water and a couple drops of tea tree oil and lavendar oil. I also keep a spray bottle filled with water, vinegar and TTO for the particularly nasty poops. The vinegar is in there because for some reason when my kids hit about 18 months old we start to have some yeast problems if I don't stay on top of it.

My wipes are two pieces of cloth serged together. One side is flannel and the other side is suede cloth. I rarely use the flannel side because I love the suede cloth side so much better. It hold the liquid, it's soft and it picks up the poop better. I also have some baby washcloths thrown in there and the thin ones work very well.

What I did before I had WAHM made wipes is buy 2 packages of washcloths from Walmart/Target, for $3 a package. Worked great, and cheap.

And I was using my old peri-bottle from when I had DS, I would mix up the wipe solution in it, and then spray it on the wipes when I needed them. No wipe warmer here, no where to put it, and my cats would just knock it down from where ever it was anyway.

I use pieces of flannel or old t-shirts for wipes. For spray, I use a peri bottle with water, a squirt of baby wash and a squirt of oil.

We cut up an old bath towel for wipes. They clean up sticky poo better than anything else we've used. We keep them in a basket in the washroom and just run them under warm tap water before using them.

I just cut up some flannel for wipes. It doesn't fray to bad, so no sewing is required. So far we are using plain water in a squirt bottle and a disposable wipe for a finishing cleaning touch on those messy poops. I might try to make a cleaning solution, but DH isn't comfortable with mixing a soap concoction, and he does most of the wiping.

Most of my wipes are baby washclothes with old cotton type pj material sewn on them.
I get all my solutions from here. She also has listed exactly what she puts in them at the bottom of that page, so you could probably just make up your own that would be similar if you wanted.
