So I got into a flu vax discussion on another non parenting board. I know, I know, waste of my time.
Anyway, there are 3 doctors on this board who are bashing me of course. They are all about herd immunity and that I should vax my healthy children against the flu because their wife is pregnant, their young baby is too young to be vaxed etc. Of course their thought is that by not vaccinating my children I am putting them and their children at risk because I am weakening the herd. Nice to know *I* have that kind of power
BTW - The flu already hit our house so this whole flu thing is moot but of course they are still angry with me because I am not vaxing the family members that didn't get the flu when it hit our house - 2/7 got it.
I don't want to stick my head in the sand and I do believe vaccination is something I have to continue to look at rather than a decision I made once and never looked at again.
My question is - is there any validity at all to this whole herd thing?
If so wouldn't Montana be riddled with all kinds of preventable diseases since thier vax rate is the lowest in the country at 59.2%??? I mean it seems that if ME not vaxing my children in Texas could kill this dudes pregnant wife in Pennsylvania then all those non vaxed kids in Montana will surely kill all of us.
Sorry for the sarcasm but the whole herd premise doesn't make sense to me. Is there sense to be made?
