Where do I start?

Thread Starter
I have been TTC for 22 months. I have been on metformin for PCOS for 3 years, even before I was TTC from my OBGYN. She put me on it as soon as I was diagnosed. My first year attempting to concieve I only had 3 cycles. At the beginning of the year I lost 40 lbs in 5 months and I had 5 cycles that where 31-37 days each. I never concieved during that time. When I asked my OB to put me on clomid she said to go see an endocrinologist about my blood sugars. The endocrinologist who told me I was pre-diabetic and to continue loosing weight and taking my metformin. My fasting blood sugar is 99-100.

I haven't had a cycle since Aug. 18th now and I am not pregnant. I feel like my OBGYN keeps blowing me off about taking clomid. I am thinking about switching OBGYN's to one who will understand me better and take me seriously. Where do I find an OBGYN who understands?

Does anyone have any website suggestions of where I can go to research? A good friend suggested this site and this is my first experience with an online format.

I am scared and nervous and I feel like my infertility is my fault, I am really have a hard time with this and could use my guidance. Please help me!

Well I can't really offer any good advice but I'm in the same boat you are. I finally found a good OBGYN after so many that never helped me. I have been on metformin for two months and started getting a period on my own and next month I am having an hsg test. If all goes well with that then she will put me on clomid and we can finally start trying. Just hang in there because I felt so helpless before but now I have a lot more hope. I hope everything goes well and you can find a good OBGYN that is willing to help you. Good Luck

Go back to the endocrinologist, and talk to them about your hormones. If you can get a reproductive endocrinologist, even better.

Did you talk to the endo about getting pregnant?

Clomid may or may not help, but it's better if you can fix the hormonal stuff (or bring it under control) especially the blood sugar stuff, before trying Clomid.

Good luck!

Im on metformin 1500mg a day extended release. I find it very helpful to eat small meals because (for me ) pcos really effects my blood sugar levels. I get sick to my stomach and shakey hands.

When I was 17, I didnt have the weight issue like I do now. Then I was 110 lbs... now I need to lose 40 lbs. But I really can't blame pcos on the weight gain, but on the weight loss I can. For me its sooo hard to get pass the 10lb mark. Im not a big eater either, I eat late but Im usually up late too.

How much metformin do they have you on? Is it the extended release? The dose and extended release could make the difference for you. But like someone said go to a RE cause they to me seem to know more. My ob/gyn missed diagnosing me when I came in there 6 times within 8mo's b/c of cycst that were bursting and making me bleed. But when I went to the RE they knew right off the bat I had pcos.

Good luck to you and make an appt with an specialist. That could make all the difference for you.

You need a reproductive endocrinologist, someone who specializes in this. An endocrinologist isn't enough.

You need to find a different doctor. It sounds like you've already been working on the basics of pcos management (metformin, weightloss (which I assume involved eating better & some exercise)). Whether clomid is the best choice for you will need to be discussed with that doctor but it can be very successful (after 6 years of ttc we conceived the first cycle on clomid - like you I'd already done the other stuff for pcos).
