unvaxxed kids dangerous to others - article request

hi all-

my cousin who has a newborn baby was told by her doctor to keep her child away from unvaxxed children my son if fully unvaxxed, so that means she will not allow her baby to be around my 3 year old son

I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for articles or chapters in a book that would clarify why it is not dangerous to be around my son.

I'm pretty upset that she is just blindly listening to her doc, especially since this is going to cause a pretty big rift in our family

any suggestions?

oh goodness, that is sad. Sad that the doctor would recommend that, and sad that she would listen.

Ask your cousin why she thinks the doctor did not mention unvaccinated adults? Germs can be found anywhere. Many healthcare workers do not keep themselves "up-to-date" on vaccines, and therefore they would present the same risk (if not a worser risk) than your 3 year old.

No doubt a huge concern is pertussis (whooping cough.) Direct your cousin to the documentation which explains how the DTaP works...it is only known to possibly prevent a serious case in the vaccinated individual...it is not known to prevent transmission.
