If you did not respond well to a manual pump... / pumping for a friend

(I know... yet another pump question. I didn't see a lot of information on this specifically though, just a lot of questions about the best pump to buy.)

If you did not respond well to a manual pump, did you have better luck with a (non-hospital grade) electric?

Or if you responded really well (or best) to hand expressing, what pump worked better for you?

When DS was a baby I tried pumping for an emergency stash using the Avent Isis manual pump and despite having a massive oversupply that required 4 hour block feedings for a couple of weeks, I could NOT get much out at all no matter what I tried with that pump. I'm talking a Tablespoon if I was lucky.

Hand expressing worked pretty well and I could get a few ounces at a time, but that isn't going to work for me this time.

I'm fine with not pumping for my baby. That's not the issue. I'm a SAHM and my LO's never stay anywhere without me until at least after age 2 so exclusively feeding off of the boob isn't a problem.
I don't need to pump... but I WANT to pump this time.

I have a good friend who is newly pregnant (we're about 18 weeks apart in pregnancy) and she had serious supply issues when her LO was a baby despite trying nearly everything she could to exclusively breastfeed. She still nursed until around age 2 as much as she could but had to supplement after being told her LO was FTT.

Soo... I'm planning on pumping for her assuming that I have a repeat of massive oversupply/no feeding problems like last time. I'm just not quite sure what pump I should invest in given the issues I had with the manual.

That also brings me to my next question.

I know breastmilk changes as your baby gets older, and storage time in a freezer is about 3-6 months. (I have a fridge/freezer in the garage that doesn't get opened much so I'm assuming I can go with 6 months storage time on that...?)

Would it be better if wait to see if she struggles again this time, or would it be better if I start pumping right away so the milk I give her from me/my LO would be for around the same age that her LO would be?

If you were pumping for a friend who's LO would be about 4-5 months younger than your baby, when would you start pumping for them?

Thanks in advance!
