If a cold rinse is good, is a hot rinse better?

I use a portable smaller washer and wash every day. I usually run a hot heavy cycle and then a regular cold cycle. Is a hot cycle even better. We don't pay for water in our building and we wash everything else in cold so I feel like I have enviro credit for double hot washes. =)

From what I understand, if you're doing a rinse at the beginning to rinse poop and/or prevent stains, then cold is better (as hot would set the stains in). If you're rinsing after the wash to get rid of soap residue then warm or hot will work better. But if you're not having issues it may not be needed. A little vinegar added to the after-wash rinse can help also.

techinally hot water helps activate soap it helps give it that lather we get used to cold water however rinses so techinally wash hot rinse cold.. Some people though sware by runnign a second hot wash through do what works best for you.

How much vinegar and what kind? Plain white distilled? I usually wash about 8-10 fuzzi bunz in a small washer.

They've picked up a bit of odor but it isn't ammonia-y and I don't have rashes and or absorbancy issues. They just don't have super good smell.

I believe that hot rinses are more effective.

I occasionally add a bit of vinegar (plain old cheap vinegar), maybe 1/3 cup or so? I don't measure, but it's not that much. And I don't do it every cycle.

We're not washing diapers here yet, so I can't give specific advice. But for regular laundry I put some plain white vinegar in a Downy ball instead of the softener. It's not very much, about up to the line they have on it (sorry, I know that is not very scientific). 1/3 cup sounds about right.
