cribs and waking up

I've started to put DD (12 months) in her crib for naps b/c sometimes in the next 6 months I would love her to spend part of the night in there. Sometimes I can get her in the crib and lay her down without waking her up, but other times it's a no go. I'm not even sure why. I'll wait 15-20 minutes, she'll seem like she' sin a deep sleep and then *bam* she's awake. On the rare occasions that I do get her into her crib she wake sup less than 15 minutes later, no matter how long she's already been asleep for. I don't understand why b/c she'll sleep alone in my bed or on the floor for up to an hour. Any advice on how to get her into her crib and keep her asleep?

We did that as well-it was a process. We started w. naps in her crib and then went to starting the night in her crib-and then went to most of the night. She was such a light sleeper-cosleeping was getting really hard for us-she was constantly waking-and staying awake with any turn or roll from us-and then up for the day when my dh got up at 6 or before to get ready for work.

It would take me 3 or more "attempts" to get her to be asleep when I layed her down in her crib at first. The one thing I noticed-and this might sound weird-although it was my neighbor's experience as well with her dd-not her son though-and not my older dd-was that once she was asleep I had to hold her for at least 10 minutes or so...her cue was she would do this heavy sigh/gentle jerk-and then I knew she was out-I would wait 2 minutes after that and then be able to put her down. Even though she was asleep-before that sigh-she wouldn't be in a deep enough sleep to transfer.

You might also try happy times in her crib. I would put her in there-and we would sing and play while I was folding the laundry, etc...just a few minutes at a time to get her familiar with it.

Is mama's bed more comfortable? How can you make her matress feel like your matress? Do you use a quilted matress pad on your own matress? If so, can you get one for her matress?

Could be the smell of your sheets....maybe sleep with a crib sheet for a few nights before putting it in the crib?
