Drying Diapers

In all my studying CD, I never really thought about the drying time except that a seperate cover and diaper would dry faster than an AIO. Well, I prepped my prefolds and was really disappointed in how long they took to dry. Then I got given 25 prefitteds/contours and washed and dried those today. They are no worse than the prefolds, I think, but it took like an hour and 15 mins or so and they are now spread out on my bed because the middles of some of them still are not dry! They have to go back in when the current load of laundry dries. How long is it supposed to take, any tips, is something wrong with my drier???

Well it depends on what setting you are drying them on and how well your dryer works I guess. It takes an hour on high with my dryer to dry a load of prefolds...but high is hard on the fabric, so I like to dry them on MedHigh for an 1hr15min instead.

Of course if you can hang them outside on a line that's the bomb!

Dryer balls really help with the drying time and they fluff the diapers too

if you have a larger stash now, you may be able to line dry them and not run out. in the winter we line dry in the basement or in the kitchen on racks if it's rainy( because baking warms the air and dries the diapers). an added benefit of line drying in the winter is adding moisture to the air so your skin doesn't dry out and your hair doesn't get staticky.

I dry mine on high along w/covers & pockets when I udes those never ruined a dipe & mine are dry in half the cycle. But my drier is inly 3 1/2 yo so I bet that & the temp make a difference.

I use fuzzi bunz. It takes the covers about an hour or two to AIR DRY. I have extra inserts and they go right back into rotation. The inserts take a good portion of the day or overnight to air dry, depending on the weather. They are less fluffy when air dried but I don't notice a difference in the they perform. We have one of the higher end drying racks from Ikea and I can fit a full load on it.

I second the suggestion for dryer balls. Also, I've heard that tossing a clean, dry bath towel into the dryer with the diapers helps - I think the towel absorbs some of the moisture perhaps?

Our dryer is really old and probably not the most efficient. I think it takes about 90 min for my stuff to dry. It's a little better if I throw in a towel. I've heard it helps your dryer to work more effectively if the lint trap area is really clean. I've heard recommended to use your vacuum hose and try to clean it well that way. I haven't done that in like a year, htough!
