Prevnar Reaction?

Have been selectively vaccinating my DS and no more than 2 shots at a time. He had HIB/Prevnar at both 2 months and 4 months (I was only going to do HIB but DH and in-laws really pressured me to do Prevnar as FIL almost died of bacterial meningitis as a babe). Both times (I think) he was fussy for about a week or a little more, had red cheeks, bit more loose poops, etc. This time he's had more restless sleep but also been tired since too. No fever either time, although he feels slightly warm.

No Tylenol given, probiotics added to bottle (unfortunately he's organic FF), gave extra Vit C 3 days before and 3 more after the shots.

Is this all likely from the Prevnar shot? How long does the reaction usually last for? He had the shots one week ago today.

I'm likely to NOT get any further Prevnar shots - if so, is he already relatively protected from the first two rounds anyway?

sounds like a "typical/normal" reaction to me. I use quotes because I don't think any reaction normal. I hope your babe feels better soon. Way to go with avoiding the tylenol!

Thanks. His cheeks are finally not as red today although he's still fussier and more tired (but restless sleeping) than usual. Any idea how long this might last for?

Watch him this winter. That's the combo I foolishly gave DD about 4 yrs ago and she still has her fever spike when she gets ill and ends up in seizures from it. In the grand scheme of "issues" it's pretty benign and manageable, but keep on the watch for that. Her's manifested within a few days.

Could've been the HIB. We had the same symptoms when we gave DS the HIB a few months ago. No combo shot...just the HIB by itself. But he had the same issues. Hope your's is feeling better!

I'm hoping for him that he develops a fever and rids his body of that junk the best he can naturally. I would continue to avoid medicine if he does. It is his best way of curing himself and getting back to his natural pre-injection self.

Thanks guys. DD and I got a bad cold (and she an ear infection along with) and DS got the cold too but not as badly and only with a low grade fever. Still not medicating (although giving extra Maxi Baby Vit C) and he seems more back to himself already, although not completely...
