Are you a health care provider, IE Nurse, MD, etc etc that does not vaccinate your family or yourself???

I'm about to go into the RN program, eventually want to be a Midwife later in life.. But I'm hearing alot of stories that health care providers are being "forced" to vaccinate themselves...

Any suggestions for readings???

RN- not vaccinating any more

Hi there! I am an RN. I was vaccinated as a child, so I had all my records to go into nursing school. However, I have just re-entered school to get my bachelors and according to know-vaccines.org, which is an FL website, the FL statutes state that k-12 and secondary school you can refuse vaccines by either religious or medical exemption. When I applied to USF, they required booster shots for tetanus, diptheria and pertussis and all I had to do was ask for an exemption form and it was done. Now I haven't actually started there yet, and since you work at a hospital during school there may be something that the actual HOSPITAL requries. I already had everything that my JOB at a different hospital requries so I am OK. Where do you live? Let me know if you find out anything if you can refuse at a job too. I know this month I just had to sign a refusal for the flu shot, however it's not madatory like the others (hep, mmr, etc.). Hmmmm...

Are you talking about issues with work or with school?

My dad is a doctor and last year he was escorted from his office and told he had to be vaccinated or he couldn't practice medicine at the hospital where he works. The man is 65....I think he's been exposed to everything by now. Anyway, he got all of the routine vaccinations in one sitting. He was pretty miffed!

I know, my poor daddy! He wasn't born in America, so he didn't get vaxed for things as a child. He also routinely tests positive for TB because he only drank raw cow's milk growing up. He has many wars with his department!

You can have titers drawn to see if you are immune. This is what I prefer to do though I did get a MMR booster and the Hep B series to comply with nursing school. Most hospitals require you to have proof of the vaccinations or proof of immunity.
