Yesterday I came to the realization that the WTM science sequence, with one subject a year, does not work for me at this point. Maybe in middle and high school. For now, I'm entirely to ADHD to have any interest in spending a whole year on biology. Besides, it doesn't align with state standards, which we have to at least pay lip service to, as we're enrolled in a public independent study school.

So I guess we're sliding further away from WTM back towards the eclectic side of things!

(Of course, as I write this, DS is dragging his college Biology textbook off the shelf to "read")

I have been stressed about trying to find a balance between what our charter school seems to want for samples & records and what we want to be doing. We have been doing WAY too much so I decided this last month I was going to slow way down, but then I was stressing about sending in my learning records for this month. I just sent them off & I am pretty happy with them. I feel like I fudged a bit at the end, but I am really figureing a lot of things out to be able to balance it all. Now we will see what kind of feedback I get at our meeting tomorrow.

We went on a grocery store tour today. It was actually pretty neat. As a vegetarian I was pretty grossed out by the butchers, but DS1 still found it fairly interesting.

Me too! We are rocking on everything except foreign languages. If I had to grade us, I'd give us a "C" for foreign languages right now . . .

V is "simmering" right now, just about ready to jump up to the next level in reading, writing, and math! Her Singapore book is starting grouping by tens and then ones, and moving toward formally doing multiplication in her Miquon book. Her handwriting in upper case letters is getting way better, and she's pretty much mastered the UC characters (and #s). She has worked really hard at it.

We've been testing these out online, and she has really been enjoying them, so I ordered the first and second (and some other great living books!) from the Yesterday's Classics website.

We've begun copywork Yay! Seriously, we've both been enjoying it; I've been just picking out a short phrase from our daily poetry a couple of times a week. I think now that she's doing well on capital letters, we're just going to stay with that for a while and let her really get comfortable with it before moving on to lowercase.

Our funny Waldorf/Classical/eclectic/traditional/progressive educational method is working really great for us. I think we're ready to start working more with main lesson books.

I have been irritated by the fact that our daughter is getting absolutely no acknowledgement from family for what she's been doing because it's not happening in school. I'm just trying to be cool because I know that this is right for us, but it's kind of bugging me when I keep hearing about what the other kids are doing (like field trips, etc.), and then I say, "yeah, we did that too" and it's like I'm not even talking I'm thinking about making a "progress report" type thing to send out to the GPs? Because she's definitely rising up to the next level.
