Diaper suggestion for the allergic baby

She is allergic. Allergic to every dang thing in the world. It makes her little creases all red and raw when she's allergic. The only thing I have been able to use without breaking her out is Pampers swaddlers. I tried the huggies pure ones again, and no go still...my problem will be coming up sooner or later when she outgrows the swaddlers...she is allergic to the cruisers and the baby dry, and swaddlers only go up to size 2...and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid cloth won't keep her dry enough, since at night if she wets a lot and her diaper is soaked she is red in the morning. Which I can clear up by giving her some diaper free time in the morning and some vaseline before putting a dipe on her, but what the heck do I do? Any ideas? I can't have her little bottom red and raw all the time from dipes...but I don't think I can buy enough or keep up with all the changes that cloth would require to keep her dry enough, the laundry and the cost would kill me...I have no idea what to do...

Besides she is in day care 4 hours a day, and they are not on board with cloth. If I buy sposies for them, and cloth the rest of the time, where do I start? I would be changing cloth every hour at least, so that's a lot of dipes... I just don't know what to do...

your poor baby! honestly, i change dd whenever she wets, which comes out to about ever hour. im used to it so its not a big deal. i do an extra load of laundry every two days, and we have no washer so i haul stuff next door to my moms to wash. diapers, even disposables, should be changed whenever baby wets imo. course that's just my opinion. for daycare, have you tried any of the more "natural" type sposies? i cant think of the brands off hand because i havent used them, but someone here will im sure. if i was you i would probably try prefolds and covers (not sure what cloth if any you have tried so far). i would think a natural fiber might be easier on her little bum. i think naked time is good for any baby bottom once a day too, allergic or not. good luck finding something to help keep her comfy. no idea what to suggest for night time. id suggest a fleece liner but she would probably be allergic to that too as its synthetic. oh, and our babies have the same birthday! i think i remember you from my ddc? lol.

Thanks inky!!! Yes, I am/was in your DDC!!! Have you checked out the thread in LWAB????

I have tried tons of them, but our ddc friends had more suggestions, so I am going shopping again, and maybe looking into nubunz...we'll see about that!!!

I would suggest a natural fiber diaper. I have heard of babies having a problem with bamboo though, so I would try either hemp or cotton, cotton is the safe bet. What detergent were you using? It could be a problem with the detergent. I've heard of good reviews on Rockin Green and Crunchy Cloth for really sensitive skin.

We had a very similar problem with our DS#1. He was miserable for months until I found seventh generation diapers that worked for him, unfortunately, they were horribly expensive were I was at because the local store *special ordered* them. But it was the only disp. diaper that didnt make his bum raw. He is very chemically sensitive. NO fragrance/dye/perfumes/additives...nothing, we joke that water makes him break out

At the same time we started to cloth diaper as well. I would use a sposie when we went out for longer periods (part of his problem was ANY urine/poop would make him blister so he had to be immediately changed if wet) and cloth when at home where I could change him more frequent. It helped keep the costs down. Plus we were able to fasten the cloth (cotton) loosely to help with *air out* time which I do believe helped calm the raging red bum issue but still have something on to catch any urine and poop.
