has anyone used Petzlife tooth gel?

someone here recommended it to me and since i found it relatively cheap on ebay i bought a bottle and we're giving it a shot. it appears to be just a blend of essential oils in a gel base. my dog HATES the taste and wont lick it off a plate like their website promised she would, so twice a day i have to pretty much force it into her mouth 30 min before mealtime. it not gentle pet parenting by any means, but the alternative is to take her to the vet to be knocked out for a cleaning.

just ftr, i bought her off of CL a yr ago and she came to me with horrible teeth after 4 yrs on cheap supermarket kibble. i've gotten her on barf and have seen super slight improvement, but if i dont see a major change soon i will have to take the risk of anesthesia and bacteria in her bloodstream from the bleeding of her gums during the cleaning.

so, have you personally tried Petzlife spray or gel? love it or hate it, lmk

I've used it and wasn't impressed with the results. On my dog boards it gets mixed reviews- some people swear it works, others haven't seen improvement. If she's on BARF I assume she's getting raw bones fairly frequently? I've had the best luck with raw bones (I like beef knuckles- for chewing) at cleaning up neglected teeth. do they get raw bones for chewing? It might be worth a try to give her a raw beef knuckle once a week for a month and see if it helps. If it doesn't, and her teeth are truly bad, I'd go for the cleaning. My own dog came to me with terrible teeth and rotten breath. We did a dental almost right away and she needed quite a few teeth pulled (I watched the vet do the whole thing, and he showed each tooth to me before extraction and explained why he felt it needed to come out- some of which I consented to, and some of which I chose to wait and see) Anyway, if her teeth are that bad, its possible some are beyond saving, so it might be a good idea to get the dental done to identify those teeth, and find any infections etc. Then, You can do preventative maintenance from here on out and possibly not need another dental.
