homemade candy corn

I am totally psyched! DD's fav candy ever is candy corn. I hardly ever let her have it, but it is hard to get away from for halloween. I need recipe help. I found a recipe for homemade candy corn but it includes powdered milk. We dont do powdered milk of any kind, and never soy. So, can anyone suggest an alternative or let me know how I can modify this recipe so we can still make them? Here is the link:

It is also found on the UrbanHousewife.

TIA. When DD saw these online she totally freaked out. But, then I noticed 1/3 C powdered milk and now I dont know what to do. I did see in Wegmans, though, that they have natural food colorings. Woohoo!

Maybe coconut milk powder? I've never used it so I don't know if it would work.

My kids would be all over this! Thanks for sharing

Can you get Vances Darifree in your area?

It might work if you simply omitted the powdered milk and replaced it with additional powdered sugar. This would probably affect the texture and make the white part of the corn more transluscent, but if she doesn't know how the texture would be otherwise, she won't know the difference. How can colored sugar NOT be tasty?

Alternatively, you could purchase powdered milk just for this one recipe, and only make this once a year. It would still be a whole lot healthier than the candy corn available in the stores. I just did a quickie online search for natural candy corn, and I can't seem to find any- I found jelly beans and gummy bears and lollypops, but no candy corn.
