When did you stop calling your dc EBF?

I was just wondering not when you weaned but at what age you felt your bm was no longer the main source of nutrition. Like when did solids become more meals and less play time?

Hmm. It seems like by a year and a half she was definitely still nursing regularly but getting most of her food from food. But I'm sure this would be different for everyone. By that age, my dd was only nursing 3-4 times a day? And definitely eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks and other beverages.

ds started playing with solids between 7 and 8 months. he weaned between 13 and 14 months. it was a gradual shift. i'm not sure when i'd say we crossed the 50/50 mark. i didn't think of him as ebf once we'd started solids, though, no matter how much or little he was eating. i hope to hold off a long time with this baby, too. the baby food stage is such a pain, as is the non-ebf poop.

ty for replies. dd was born 364 days ago and is still ebf. she licks food but sits up everything else if it gets to her mouth. she was born a month early but is meeting all the milestones otherwise. she just started cutting a tooth so maybe it'll change. I'm scared to take her to the dr or dentist since she's still ebf. fwiw she's 19.4 lbs. which is easily triple her 6.2 lb birthweight.

My dd has almost no solids at all yet, but I still don't think of her as EBF anymore, because it isn't exclusively BM that's going in her.

As soon as they start eating solids. Exclusive means nothing else, right?
With DS he was pretty much EBF until around.. 9-10 mo or so. After that it was still like 90% EBF until the last few weeks he has been actually consuming some food.. I can also tell he is nursing less because my breasts feel full more often and he isn't emptying them completely. He is probably around 70% BF and 30% solids right now at 14 mo.

For me EBF is just that, exclusive. Once ds started eatting other foods he was no longer EBF, even though he wasn't eatting much. Then I just said he was still mostly BF.

I stopped saying EBF when he was no longer EXCLUSIVE to the boob. At 6 months, he had had solids- it was rare but it had happened so that's when he was just BF

Thank you. DC wasn't in the list though

I still consider mine pretty much EBF, because he eats like 2 spoonfuls of solids the whole day. Once he starts eating at least 1 real "meal", I wouldn't consider him ebf.

However, there are different ways that different organizations/people see it. I know that some consider "Exclusive" as "nothing but breastmilk in the last 24 hours" (or other time period, I've seen 2 or 3 weeks I think, as well). For statistics purposes this can make it complicated to compare different countries or organiztion's studies etc.

Saying "nothing but breastmilk ever", well, in all honesty, I think a lot of mums would protest that their 4 month old is exclusively breastfed, despite that bottle fed in the hospital, or a preemie fed formula for a few weeks before getting breastfeeding to work. Although I do know that some bring it that far.

DD got to try solids at 5 months, my breakfast porridge for a couple of days (we were pushed to start early because she was so tiny), but it all kept falling out of her mouth, despite her feeding herself. So we waited another month, and in my mind she was definitely exclusively breastfed during that month.

I think of my kids being EBF if they can go a day w/o soilds and not be upset, or even notice really. DS is a big nearly 8 month old and he still goes a day or 2 w/o solids sometimes. He just isn't interested some days. Even when he does eat, it is never much. With DD I think she switched to needing/ wanting solids daily (if not more often) around 10 months. She nursed till 23 months.

For me it was as soon as we started solids. Like a PP said, I don't know how putting a percentage on it jives with the very word "exclusive". Although breast milk made up the bulk of their nutrition after we started solids, they were no longer exclusively breast fed, to me.
